26 Promotions – Tucson, AZ – (June 5, 2018) – Cody Cambensy charged to his first feature win of the season on Saturday night at Tucson Speedway.
Cambensy struggled with a new setup in practice, but the team continued to work on the truck prior to qualifying. Cambensy qualified sixth for the first of two 25-lap features, as the team continued to search for speed in the center of the turns.
“We slipped back a few spots and battled really hard with our teammate, Daniel Doherty,” said Cambensy. “It was awesome, three-wide, clean racing for about 15-laps. We were able to run the bottom and got up to second and started to run down the leader and a caution came out with eight to go. I restarted on the outside and was able to battle Jeremy Smith; we made the pass for the win on the outside. It was the most fun I have had racing. The 69 and 24 trucks raced us hard and clean all night.”
Following the victory lane celebration, Cambensy and his team went back to work to get their truck dialed in for the second feature of the night.
“I still wasn’t happy with the truck. I knew we could get some more speed out of it,” he said. “It wasn’t perfect, but in race conditions, we were able to move around pretty good, and that helped us get the win.”
An eight-car invert would line Cambensy up on the outside of the fourth row for the start of the final 25-lap race.
“By lap four we were up to second chasing down our teammate in the 24 again,” explained Cambensy. “We were able to get to his bumper, and it looked like we could battle for another win, but we started to lose fuel pressure.”
Cambensy hung on to second until a late race restart shuffled him back to a fourth-place finish.
“I think we have found something that’s working for us with the handling of the car,” he said. “I know we could have given the 24 a little bit of a challenge if we didn’t lose fuel pressure at the end. It was still a great night of racing for us.”
Cambensy has three weeks off before the NASCAR Super Trucks return for the Firecracker 50 at Tucson Speedway on June 30th.
Cody Cambensy would like to thank his family, TMI Motorsports, Temperature Control INC., Levin Racing, Castle Roofing, Port of Tucson, Tucson Frozen Storage, Dirt Works Contracting, Desert RV, Road Runner Pizza, GAT Racing, Ron Norman, and Fiveone Media for their continued support.
