Vanderheiden Wins at Crawford County!
Cole Vanderheiden charged to his second win of his rookie season in the IMCA Race Saver Sprint Car division on Friday night. The triumph came at Crawford County Speedway (Denison, Iowa) aboard his Three Sixteen Strategy Group No. 15v Sprinter.
He hit the ground running with a heat race win, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the feature.
The 15-lap finale found him grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag, and he never looked back on his way to the win, which came ahead of Casey Friedrichsen, Jake Greenwood, Mike Houseman Jr., and Bret Klabunde.
As smooth as Friday night's program went was how challenging Saturday's slate was at Nebraska's Eagle Raceway. With 30 IMCA Race Saver Sprint Cars in attendance, Cole started fourth in his heat race but was sidelined before the drop of the checkered flag by a broken rear-end.
The team initially thought they were done for the night, but after having several awesome volunteers lend a hand they got the car ready for a B-Main. Starting 12th on the B-Main grid, Vanderheiden clawed his way to a seventh-place finish, which left him short of qualifying for the feature as a challenging night drew to an early close.
The three-race weekend wrapped up on Sunday evening at Huset's Speedway (Brandon, S.D.). Twenty-six racers took part in the event, and after starting sixth in his heat race on a hammer-down surface, Vanderheiden only managed a fifth-place finish, which relegated him to a B-Main.
Cole won the B-Main to earn the 17th-starting spot for the main event. He enjoyed a solid run in the 20-lap finale, advancing to a 10th-place finish.
