Carson McCarl – Foundation Laid for A Strong Season

Des Moines, IA (April 23, 2019) – Carson McCarl kicked off his 2019 season last Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway, back behind the wheel of his driver-owned #27. A successful start to the night saw him drift back a bit in the A-main, but an 8th-place finish in the feature event will provide Carson and the team a great foundation to build on over the season to come.

Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway saw a loaded field of 360 competition, as the always stout group of Knoxville regulars were joined by a few outsiders, totaling 35 cars. McCarl got off to a nice start, as an early pill draw saw him roll out eighth in qualifying and he was able to lock down a lap time good enough for 5th.

Taking both the green and checkered flags in fifth in his heat provided Carson enough points to lineup on the outside of the front row in the night’s feature event. “It was the first night out with the team, so it felt great to post a good lap during qualifying,” said Carson. “The heat was fairly uneventful, but we ended with a pretty good point total that landed us on the front row for the A-main.”

The 18-lap main event saw Carson swap the runner-up spot early with veteran Jon Agan. “Jon was able to get by me early, but an early caution gave me another shot and I was able to get back around him,” said McCarl. The lap four caution saw Carson move back into second, but as the race drew on, the car went away from the Altoona native.

“Agan was able to get back around me on lap six and the track slicked off as the laps passed by,” said Carson. “The car started to get really loose and we fell back to 8th at the finish.”

While losing spots on the track never feels too good, Carson feels that the team has a lot to build on as the season progresses, and that they were able to take a lot away from last Saturday. “We missed the setup on opening night, but I think we have a good idea of what we need to change going forward,” said McCarl. “I’m really looking forward to getting back out there this weekend.”

Back operating as a driver/owner, Carson mentioned that it feels good to be back behind the wheel of his own car, but that he couldn’t do it alone. “I have a great group of sponsors and John & Gerald Cressman building my 360 motors,” said McCarl. “I couldn’t do it without them and I’m excited to see how this season goes!”

Carson will have the Cressman Enterprises/Jetco Electric #27 ready to race this Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway!
