Carson McCarl – Reflecting From the Pits

Dallas, TX (July 12, 2019) – Taking my call from the pit area of Lee County Speedway on Thursday night with the Sprint Invaders, Carson McCarl took a bit of time to reflect on a solid weekend at the Knoxville Raceway. Friday night saw him score a top five and take the points lead in his 360, before coming back on Saturday to set quick time competing in the 410 class and coming home 11th in the night’s main event. After doing battle with the Sprint Invaders on Thursday night, he’ll head back to Knoxville on Saturday, looking to strengthen his points lead!

McCarl had the Cressman Enterprises/Jetco Electric #27 rolling well in qualifying last weekend, taking third on Friday in the 360 division, before setting quick time while flying the #24 on the wing on Saturday. “We were fast all weekend,” said Carson. “It felt great to get back in a 410 for the first time this year and go out and set quick time on Saturday, but we just continue to be pretty strong in qualifying with the 360, which has helped us have a strong season so far.”

On both nights, Carson would find himself starting on the outside of the third row in his heat race and advance a spot to finish 5th. “Our heat races were pretty similar both nights,” said McCarl. “Both were pretty uneventful, but I was able to move up a spot and earn enough points to keep myself in the invert, which is incredibly important.”

The luck of the draw would put him on the pole for the Friday night A-main in his 360, but some heavy hitters were able to run him down late. “We got off to a pretty good start from the pole on Friday night, but the car went away some around the halfway point,” said Carson. “Wayne [Johnson] and my dad [Terry McCarl] got around us and I just missed out on the podium when Clint [Garner] just edged me out at the line.”

While the invert was in his favor on Friday, it wouldn’t treat McCarl as kindly in the 410 division on Saturday night. Accumulating the second most points through preliminary action, the eight would be pulled for the invert and leave Carson starting on the inside of the 4th row. “Rolling off seventh in feature made the night quite a bit tougher,” said Carson. “I missed the bottom on the entry to one after taking the green and lost a few spots, then dad got by me late to leave us with an 11th place finish.”

While the night didn’t end as great as it started, Carson was happy with the weekend and with the extra seat time in his 410. “It was a pretty great weekend,” said McCarl. “We were able to take over the points lead in the 360 division on Friday and even though the feature didn’t quite go our way on Saturday, it should really help when I get back in car this weekend.”

Carson will be back at Knoxville this Saturday with #27 Cressman Enterprises/Jetco Electric ride after once again racing with the #17A on his wing Thursday night with the Sprint Invaders!
