Excitement at River Cities for Dobmeier!
Mark Dobmeier, pilot of the #13 Senske & Son Right Choice Electric sprint car, is no stranger to the fast bull-ring of River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Every week the team is very strong and is certainly a contender to win every time he hits the 4/10 mile oval.
This past Friday, after a week’s worth of pursuing a “Back Row Challenge” to be put on by the track and not getting it to happen, some of the sponsor’s of Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports stepped up and offered Mark a separate challenge.
Big Trucks by Jimco, Right Choice Electric, Willow Ridge, Rose Creek Tavern, and Dammer Trucking all got together and offered “Dynamite” Dobmeier an additional $1750 to come from the back of the Main Event to win. After finishing second in the heat race, Dobmeier took the challenge and lined up 21st, at the back of the pack to take the green for the start of the Main Event. There was a red flag on the first lap, but following the restart, the contest went from flag to flag. Dobmeier charged through the field and all the way up to second behind race leader Casey Mack in the number 8 machine.
Dobmeier explains, “I thought at one point we were in the lead…I mean I raced my tail off working our way through the field, but then I noticed Casey (Mack) was about a straightaway in front of me. We were right there by the time the checkered flag flew, but a caution or another lap or two I think we could have had it! This created a lot of excitement throughout the entire track, for both me, the crew, our awesome sponsors, and the fans…Everyone was excited!”
Dobmeier was right in mentioning about the excitement, because the speedway offered the Back Row Challenge for next week in which they would put up an additional $500 on top of the normal weekly payout for Dobmeier. On top of that, Big Trucks by Jimco, Right Choice Electric, Willow Ridge, Rose Creek Tavern, and Dammer Trucking will once again support their car by putting up the $1750, making it an additional $2250 for the #13 to win next week’s Main Event.
After charging from 21st to 2nd at River Cities Speedway, it was off to Knoxville Raceway for the track’s Season Championship night. Dobmeier made 9th quick with a 15.125, and then drove through the heat race from 4th to 1st. He started on the inside of the fifth row for the Main, but after making it near the top five, he slowed and stalled while avoiding a spun car. Coming from the tail of the field, Mark raced back up to 7th to cap off the 2010 Knoxville Raceway Season Championship.
“It was a little disappointing loosing those spots,” mentions Dobmeier, “We were only 5 points out of a third for the season, and 5 points is just one finishing position in the feature. But, we’re very happy that we came back from the tail to where we did…All in all our season here was pretty good.”
There is not much racing left for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports, but the team traveled back North to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota for the originally planned Labor Day Weekend Double Header. Monday’s event fell to rain, but Sunday, Mark set quick time for the fourth week in a row at the “Home of the Professionals,” and came from 6th to 5th in the Heat. “We had a decent run tonight,” says Mark after he came from 7th to 2nd in the Main Event to the #23w of Scott Winters, “Everything was going great, and we were catching the leader, but (Scott) Winters made a good move through the traffic and we just couldn’t get around him.”
This weekend, Dobmeier will be going for the extra $2250 on Friday’s River City Speedway Back Row Challenge, followed by a Saturday night appearance at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin for the Jerry Richert Memorial IRA Sprint show.
