One Position Shy of Three for Three for Dobmeier
Four wins in a row for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports at their home track of River Cities Speedway is how Mark Dobmeier of Grand Forks started out the weekend in the Senske and Son Right Choice Electric #13. Mark started on the 5th row in the main event on the fast 10 second track and quickly grabbed the lead, taking the checkers for the fourth time in a row.
“It always feels good to win here,” says Mark. “We have been very fortunate and successful here at River Cities, and it is a lot of fun to show the guys how all of their hard work pays off and also to give something for the loyal fans to come out and see week in and week out. It was a fantastic race track tonight, it had a nice cushion on the top and you could really make some serious lap times.”
Following the win at River Cities this past Friday was another near-win experience at the legendary speedway of Knoxville. It started out by qualifying 6th out of the 29 cars with a 15.745, setting the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13 on the inside of the third row for the heat race to make his way up to fourth. A number 6 pill was drawn before the night’s main event, lining up Dynamite Dobmeier on the outside of the front row.
“A front row start is the best place to be here at Knoxville,” mentions Dobmeier. “We had a great car going into the main and with some of the runs we have had throughout the year, I knew we were to have the car to beat.”
Mark certainly had the car to beat as he took an early, commanding lead and lead until a caution flag flew with only a few laps to go. With a driver who has won more races at this track then most right on Mark’s tail, it was certainly going to play out to be an exciting finish. Terry McCarl got around Mark with a very close slide job through turns three and four and made the night’s experience one to remember, as Dobmeier finished behind the number 24 in the number 2 spot.
“I really enjoy racing against (Terry) McCarl,” explains Mark following the tight, exciting race to the checkereds. “He certainly knows his way around this place and it can be a challenge keeping him behind you, but we raced hard and clean at the end, giving a nice show for the fans and unfortunately, Terry came out on top instead of us.”
With a win and a second under the belt of Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports for the weekend, looking into Huset’s was nothing but positive. With the strong runs throughout the weekend, the team knew they had a fast race car, and were geared to win their second of the weekend, following the near two for two start of it.
Dobmeier made Quick Time on the 3/8 oval with an 11.019 and followed up with a fourth place finish in the heat. Mark started on the pole of the feature and made quick work of the speedway, leading the contest from flag to flag.
