11th Win of the Season – Momentum to Knoxville
Every weekend for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports it starts out with their home track of River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and every weekend, the team is destined to run up front.
This past Friday marked the 11th win of the season for “Dynamite” Mark Dobmeier, driver of the Senske & Sons Right Choice Electric #13. It began with a tail-end start in the heat race, in which Dobmeier was able to capitalize with a victory. Starting on the outside of the fourth row for the main event, Dobmeier made the pass for the lead only seven laps in, and lapped up to fourth, with the second and third place drivers right ahead.
“It was just an awesome night,” says Dobmeier. “We had everything right with the car, and we were fast. We really enjoy this track…it is a lot of fun for us as a team to be fast and put on a great show for the fans. We look forward to taking this momentum into the week of Knoxville.”
Following the win at River Cities, the team traveled to Knoxville for one last weekly event on the legendary ½ mile speedway before the 50th Annual Knoxville Nationals to make sure everything was in order to have a successful Nationals.
Dobmeier qualified 22nd with a 15.559 out of the 39 entries and with a pole starting spot for the heat, Mark fell back one spot to Dusty Zomer to finish second to line up 18th for the start of the main event.
“We always move forward throughout the race,” explains Mark, “Starting 18th is not exactly what you want to do here at Knoxville, but we knew we had a good car and that we should be pretty fast.”
Fast is exactly what Mark was in the Senske & Sons Right Choice Electric #13 as he powered through the strong field and up to an amazing fifth by the time Doug Clark waved the checkered flag.
Every year, Terry McCarl and McTwo Promotions puts on the Osky Challenges at Southern Iowa Speedway, and since the team was in town for the Nationals, Dobmeier and the crew decided to race the Front Row Challenge in hopes of the 50 Large. Mark has been fast at Southern Iowa Speedway in years past as he has conquered the King of the Hill event in 2008.
With the rain the speedway had the night before, the track was a little narrow in the heat race, not allowing the #13 to move forward and therefore Dobmeier had to make his way into the main event through the Semi. Starting 3rd in the Semi, Dobmeier took second about half way through to guarantee a starting spot in the main event.
Mark started 18th at the beginning of the 25 lap Front Row Challenge and made short work of the next 9 drivers as he sat in ninth with only four laps down. Following a restart, Mark’s hood was nailed by a mud clump, ripping it off and blocking Mark’s vision, ending the night for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports.
“It was very unfortunate the hood broke,” says Mark. “We were very fast and we had a lot of laps left, but we decided to just pull in, save equipment and get ready for the Nationals.”
Mark has been very quick at Knoxville Raceway this year and the team looks forward to a successful 2010 Knoxville Nationals. The team’s highest finish is 12th in the B, and with the homework and hard work the team has put forth, you can certainly expect to see Dobmeier high in the charts throughout this coming week.
Mark mentions that qualifying will be the focus throughout the week and with good qualifying runs, it makes it that much easier to make the prestigious main event. “We have everything in line; the car is great, our motor program is where we need it, and the crew has been phenomenal each and every week, we should have a great Nationals!”
