Race Report: Corey Hoover

On Track Inc. - CORONA, Calif. (May 12, 2014) – The California Lightning Sprints returned to Bakersfield Speedway on May 10th for round 1 of the Civil War Series which features the best cars from the northern series (BCRA) versus the CLS cars from the south. Corey was looking to continue the momentum of three consecutive top 5 finishes and build on his points lead in the battle for Rookie of the Year.

The day got off to a good start for the 15 year old as he qualified 7th quickest which would put him in the 5th starting spot in the heat race. As the green flag dropped for Heat 1 the cars jostled for position. Hoover passed two cars on the outside in lap 1, then made a nice move between two cars on lap 2 to take the lead. He took the win by almost a full straightaway at the checkers. This would put him on the front row for the 20 lap main.

The 20 lap main would prove to be somewhat challenging as high winds had dried out the track. At the green Hoover dropped into 3rd and battled hard with Jeff Dyer to keep his spot. After 6 laps and a caution the cars took the green flag and Hoover continued his battle with Dyer. As the cars approached turn 1 there was contact that sent the car of Hoover skyward. The car landed hard on the right side and nearly flipped but the damage had been done. The front suspension and right front wheel had suffered too much damage to continue. It was a disappointing end to the day but the youngster remained optimistic. "It was a great day with another heat race win. I was battling hard with Dyer and I felt like we had a top 5 car today, so it was a little disappointing but I'm happy that the car is in one piece. Thanks to all of our sponsors for their support".

Hoover sits 6th in the overall point standings and leads the battle for Rookie of the Year.
