Crash ends Hoover's night at Ventura
On Track Inc. - CORONA, Calif. (May 27, 2014) – The California Lightning Sprints series returned to "the beach" for the round 14 of the series on October 18th. The historic track is located on the coast which makes it the most scenic on the tour. This was also the last of the Civil War series which pitted the best drivers from the north (BCRA) versus the best from the south (CLS).
After a motor change at mid season and a great second place at Perris, Corey was looking to continue his impressive rookie season with another top 5 finish.
Things got off to a good start in qualifying as Corey made the most of a loose race car and qualified with a solid lap to lock up the 9th spot. This would put him in the middle of the pack for his heat race with the invert, At the drop of the green flag in the heat race, the inside line jammed up which put Hoover towards the back of the field. Corey fought hard to gain positions and ended up 5th.
The 20 lap main was off to a great start as Hoover clawed his way from 15th up to 8th and was charging. Contact between the 84 and 22 sent both cars around and right in the path of Corey. The contact destroyed the front suspension and ended a great run.
With one race to go Corey still leads the Rookie of the Year standings and is top 5 in overall points.
