Henderson and Sandvig Show Growth During AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (July 2, 2019) – The growth of the Mike Sandvig owned racing team took a step forward as Justin Henderson and the team visited Jackson Motorplex for the first time as a team last weekend during the 41st annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

The team finished just outside the top 10 during both preliminary nights of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event before making the $41,000-to-win, $3,000-to-start finale.

Thursday started on a high note with a fourth-place qualifying effort, putting the team in the second starting position for their heat race. Henderson was able to win, putting him into the dash. A seventh-place finish in the dash lined him up seventh for the A Main. On Lap 1 of the feature, Henderson got a little out of shape in the opening turn, enabling several cars to get past him. He regrouped to finish 12th.

“To come right out the box with a fairly new team at a track we’ve never been to together and win a heat race and get in the dash was quite the accomplishment,” he said. “I made a driver mistake early and it cost us, but overall it’s hard to be upset with how we ran.”

The second night of action proved that the speed the team had was no fluke as Henderson qualified seventh quickest in his group. This slotted him into the fourth starting position for a heat race. He maintained that position to lock into the 14th starting spot for the main event. Henderson started off fast, passing three cars in the opening laps before the field began to stretch out. With feature action going non-stop, Henderson settled for an 11th-place finish.

“We were able to move forward and pass some cars in the feature and anytime you’re doing that you must be doing something right,” he said. “There were no cautions so ultimately I was happy with what we did and we’ll take the 11th.”

The finale on Saturday night had Henderson lining up second in his heat race and he was able to qualify through to the A Main as a result of a third-place finish. The team started the feature event from the 15th starting position. After struggling with an ill-handling car and getting lapped mid-race, Henderson decided to save the equipment and pull in during a late caution. He was credited with a 22nd-place finish.

“I made a poor choice chassis-wise in terms of adjustments and we were really far off from the get-go Saturday night,” he said. “It took everything I had to just hold onto the car out there. We got shuffled back and had a few cautions and we really were not going to make up much ground. So I pulled it in and saved ourselves a little wear on the equipment.”

Henderson and Sandvig plan to return to action for a weekly show Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where they are hoping to have a solid run as they continue to gel as a team.

“Ultimately we had some success right out the box at Jackson, but that was probably the highlight of the weekend there,” Henderson said. “But the fact we could do that right away and we’re not taking big swings at things, it says we’re gaining and together we are a force anywhere we pull in. I’m excited to get back to Knoxville and see what we can do.”
