Baxter Begins Season by Rallying for Trio of Top-10 Finishes
Inside Line Promotions – DIXON, Calif. (June 8, 2020) – Blaine Baxter has overcome some early season misfortune to post three top-10 finishes in three nights of Super 600 Micro Sprint competition at Dixon Speedway.
Baxter was most recently forced to restart the A Main in 18th and he battled back for a ninth-place finish Saturday night.
“We started sixth and were running well until I tried to lap a driver who was in a micro for the first time,” he said. “He came up into me and my car jumped his right rear, sending me into the tires that protect the post for the pit gate. Luckily our car wasn’t damaged and we were able to finish ninth after restarting at the back.”
“The only two cars faster than Blaine in the main were the first- and second-place cars, and they were in clean air,” added Blaine’s father, Dustin Baxter. “It was just a little misfortune that kept him back.”
Blaine Baxter also moved forward during a holiday doubleheader at Dixon Speedway on May 23-24.
“On our first night out, Blaine just kind of knocked the dust off after not being in the car for so long,” Dustin Baxter said. “He lost a couple of spots in his heat race, but then moved forward in the A Main from 17th to 10th.”
Blaine Baxter passed a number of cars the following night after an incident in his heat race.
“We qualified sixth out of 31 cars, but got crashed while running second in our heat race,” Dustin Baxter said. “That made us run the B Main, where we finished second and then Blaine drove from 22nd to ninth in the A Main.
“I think Blaine’s moving up another level in maturing and understanding the race car. We’re looking forward to more improvement this year.”
Changes in racing schedules have also affected their racing plans for this year.
“With the changes in racing this year we’ve decided just to try to have fun and win races, and not race for points,” Dustin Baxter said. “Our racing schedule for now will just be on a week-to-week basis as racing evolves around here.”
The team plans on returning to Dixon Speedway this Saturday.
