Taylor III, Hisel, Roden, Campbell, Keller, Mick and a Johnson double up highlight action at I-35 Speedway

By Phillip Wilson (Winston, MO) -- It was Tompkins Industries night at I-35 Speedway on Saturday and fans were treated to great 3, 4 and yes 5 wide racing. One hundred and twenty four cars checked in as drivers and track crew ran a very efficient program which saw the final checker fly at around 11:10 P.M.

E-Mod points leader Michael Taylor III picked up feature win number 12 on the 2021 season as he went to battle in some exciting 3 wide racing for numerous laps with last weeks winner Chris Dishong and early race leader Brayden Bennett. In the end Taylor picked up the win with Dishong, Bennett, Lane Mathews and Adam Dunwoodie completing the top 5.

In Pure Stock action Kristchon Hisel put his 27H machine in victory lane for the first time in 2021. Hisel battled early with Travis Cavin and Blaine Yonts but would hold off all competitors. Conrad Kaufman would race his way to a second place finish followed by points leader Rieli Yonts, who had to start tenth on the grid having won the previous 3 weeks. The Top 5 was rounded out by Travis Cavin and Blaine Yonts.

The Poweri Midwest Lightning Sprint points battle came down to the last race of the season between Bobby Layne and Chase Fischer. After Layne was involved in early incident Fischer would be crowned the 2021 Series Champion. The race however went to 13 year old Trice Roden as he led every circuit enroute to the win. Chase Fischer would finish second, another young up and coming driver Chasity Younger finished third, Mike Tindall and Jeff Bard rounded off the top 5.

Houston Johnson picked up his third Midwest Limited Late Model win on the season to go along with his six USRA Modified wins. That would give Johnson a total of 9 on the year. Tommy Cordray closed late but wound up second, Shayne Bailey in his first race with the class finished third, Paul Glendenning finished fourth and points leader Kerry Davis fifth.

In USRA B-Mod action Cole Campbell got the monkey off his back at the famed 3/8ths mile dirt oval. Campbell had great battles early but in the end ran away from the field. Cole Moore continues to impress since moving to the B-Mod ranks finishing second, Chad Fuller had a great run in third, points leader Tyler Cadwallader finished fourth and early leader Eddie Schwope Jr. was fifth.

Doug Keller picked up 17 feature wins a year ago but until Saturday hadn’t tasted McCarthy Autogroup Victory Lane in 2021 at I-35 Speedway. Keller found himself in the right place at the right time picking up the his first win at the track. Thomas Roberts would chug his way to second followed by points leader Michael Knight, Aaron Sauter and Brad Whitney.

In the USRA Modified points leader Houston Johnson used a daring outside pass making it three wide out of turn 2 to pick up his second win of the night, 7th in the Modified and counting his Late model win his 10th overall. Last weeks winner Darren Shaw was second, Austin Johnson was third, Tyler Hibner fourth and Ed Noll fifth.

Sport Compact points leader Brad Mick picked up win number 7 as he had a three car battle all race long with Tony Bell and Curtis Masterson. Bell finished second, Masterson was third followed by Josh Clark and Chris Wright. Congratulations to the 24 car field of Sport Compacts as they went green to checkered.

Join us next week for more great racing on McCarthy Autogroup Show Me Spectacular night as we continue the chase for the champs through the whole month of October! Joining us will be the Show Me Vintage Series.
