Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2015) – Sammy Swindell had the speed necessary to win at the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals.

Unfortunately, the luck needed wasn’t with the CJB Motorsports team during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season-finale weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte last weekend.

“We started out good and had the fastest lap in the first round for Friday,” he said. “On the second round (for Saturday’s program) I missed. You had to run through a big hole to get above it and turn across. The first lap when I bounced it didn’t help me. I thought I could make an adjustment for the second lap, but wound up in the same place. We weren’t far off.”

The action began on Thursday as Swindell and his Big Game Treestands backed team set quick time out of the 58 drivers for Friday’s program before he timed in seventh quickest for Saturday’s event, which was postponed a day because of the weather.

Swindell continued his momentum on Friday when he advanced from his third starting position to take the lead in a heat race. However, a side panel on his top wing disintegrated in the closing laps.

“We had a new wing and a new motor,” he said. “All that was going really good. We came back and ran our heat on Friday night and was really fast. I think something must have hit that wing on one of those first two starts because they were throwing up some big stuff in front of me. The car was almost perfect going around there until the sideboard broke.

“I’ve had it happen three or four times when something will hit it. If you’re some place that’s fast, everything has to be there and working right. If you lose one brace it will try to tear that thing right off. It was my yellow and my debris so I had to go to the back.”

Swindell was unable to finish the heat race, which relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. He then led the distance of the consolation race to earn a transfer into the main event, which he started on the inside of the sixth row.

“There was a big hole getting into turn one,” he said. “Some guys moved around and I got stuck where I had to run through it. It bounced really hard and we lost a rear stop. I was pretty fortunate to not really crash hard. We got hit a little in the back. It knocked the left front tire off the bead. That put us back there and we had to restart 28th at the time. We came back out and passed a few cars. The track was narrow with not a lot of room and it was hard to pass people. I had a bunch of close calls, but we were fairly happy with where we were. It was just circumstances got in the way of better results.”

Swindell rebounded from the early incident to post a 12th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with Swindell winning a heat race from the pole position. That locked him into the dash, where he placed ninth to start the main event on the inside of the fifth row.

“The car was really good, but that crash on Friday messed up some of the internal stuff on the wing,” he said. “They tried to patch it, but in the heat race it was starting to collapse more. Those were the only two wings we had. They had to get one of the wings they had that was totally different. We put it on for the dash and the car wasn’t very good. We tried to make some adjustments for the feature, but it wasn’t quite right. We had a totally different car.”

Swindell ended with a 20th-place finish.

“We had a lot of positives,” he said. “We tried a new motor that was definitely an upgrade. The wing that we had on there was better. All that stuff we can carry into next year knowing we’ll have a new truck and trailer and all the pieces will be there. It’s a lot to look forward to.”

Swindell is scheduled to close the season this Friday and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., where he will drive for A.G. Rains during the USCS Fall Nationals with the USCS Series.
