Pat Doar Claims Victory Monday Night as the XR Northern Storm Series Kicked Off at Wagamon's Ogilvie Raceway.

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (July 17) – After taking a break on Sunday, the Ogilvie Raceway was back in action Monday night for the opening night of the XR Northern Storm Series. The night featured WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds and the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series. Fans enjoyed seeing 81 of the best drivers put on some great WISSOTA Dirt Races with Jason VandeKamp, Pat Doar and Dave Cain grabbing victories.

Jason VandeKamp and William Moelter led the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds on the track for the first feature of the night, and after a quick caution, VandeKamp claimed the lead. Zach Benson grabbed second and kept close as the top two drivers pulled away from the pack. Benson never let VandeKamp get far away as they began to put drivers down a lap. John Howard was the first victim of the leaders as they split the track and passed drivers three wide. Benson had the slight advantage with four laps to go, however it was nearly too close to call. Benson and VandeKamp remained glued to one another the final few laps, and with a minimal margin of .067 seconds, Jason VandeKamp took the victory. Zach Benson settled for second with Nick Koehler, Ryan Savoy and William Moelter rounding out the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models took the clay for their 40 lap race with Pat Doar and Dustin Sorenson on row one. As the green waved, Doar sped away, however Sorenson moved high on the track and stole the lead. The top drivers began to settle into points while others remained door to door for positions. Cars covered the entire race surface as Doar and Sorenson began to put drivers down a lap. The yellow then waved for debris, and as the field was reset, Sorenson remained in command. Dave Mass, Travis Budisalovich and Doar put pressure on Sorenson, and Doar slid high to take the lead. Mass then dove low on the track surface and charged to Sorenson’s side. Sorenson held off Mass, but Budisalovich slid to their sides. They were three-wide in the turn as Budisalovich claimed the runner-up point and began to chase after Doar. With a handful of laps to go, the #31 of Budisalovich was within car lengths, as Doar, Budisalovich and Mass encountered lapped traffic. With few laps to go. Budisalovich gave it one final push for the win, however Pat Doar held the point and took the checkers. Remaining top points went to Travis Budisalovich, Dave Mass, Dustin Sorenson and Jake Redetzke.

After two exciting feature races, the WISSOTA Modifieds lined up to close the night’s races. A couple of cautions kept the drivers slow, but as the race went green, Dave Cain was in command. Ryan Gierke raced to Cain’s door and they raced parallel in the turns for the top point. Other drivers also battled three and two-wide for positions, but Cain remained in the lead. Jeremy Nelson and Shane Sabraski raced door to door for second, Gierke and Clayton Wagamon battled for fourth, everyone was fighting for points as they came upon slower cars. Just as the top drivers began to lap others, the yellow light flickered on. A couple cautions put pressure on Cain with just a few laps to go, and the final restart featured Cain, Gierke and Sabraski three-wide for first. Dave Cain pulled out of the curve first and took the checkers in his infamous #2c. JT Johnson, Ryan Gierke, Clayton Wagamon and Shane Sabraski claimed points two through five respectively.

Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will be back in action on Saturday July 22nd with our Annual School Bus Races! Racing will resume at 6:30pm with WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Hornets and Street Stocks accompanying the Busses.
