Ruhlman wins again while Dematta and Krummert grab first wins of the season at PPMS

For immediate release

Imperial, PA

After several weeks of rainouts at PPMS, racing was a go last night for Diehl Automotive Autograph Night and $1 hot dog night. PPMS would see twelve heat races and eight features. Chad Ruhlman (87R), from Bemus Point, New York, would pick up another RUSH Sprint Car Series Victory, while Garrett Krummert (10S), from Ellwood City, would pick up his first PPMS RUSH Sportsman Modified win of the season, after coming from tenth place to out-pace a field of 18 cars. Dustin Dematta (77D) picked up the win in the Elite Modified Series feature. John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, would make it two wins in a row in the Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series 20-lap feature event, while Greg Beach (33X), from Chicora, took the win in the PPMS Pro Stock feature. Dave McManus (171), from Elizabeth, brought home the win in the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock feature event after starting last due to a driver change. Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio, continued to dominate the Four Cylinder division with another win, while Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, OH, grabbed her third win of the season in the Young Guns division.

C. Ruhlman (87R) has won every RUSH Sprint Car race held at PPMS and last night was no different. C. Ruhlman (87R) would start on the pole next to John Mollick (4J). When the green flag dropped, C. Ruhlman (87R) would continue to lead the field with Mollick right behind him. The event’s lone caution would come on lap 10 slowing the pace. C. Ruhlman (87) and Mollick (4J) would lead the field on the restart with Brian Woodhall (8B) in third, Zach Morrow (27M) in fourth, and Bradley Blackshear (19) in fifth. Mollick (4J) would make a run for the lead on lap 12 but C. Ruhlman (87R) would shut the door on him, en route to another PPMS RUSH Sprint Car Series victory. Following him to the line was Mollick (4J) in second, Woodhall (8B) in third, Morrow (27M) in fourth, Bradley Blackshear (19) in fifth, Kevin Ruhlman (23) in sixth, Brandon Blackshear (10) in seventh, Brian Hartzell (69) in eighth, David Hawkins (27D) in ninth, and Matt Sherlock III (55) would complete the top 10. Heat race winners were C. Ruhlman (87R) and Woodhall (8B).

Steve Slater (29), from Butler, would start on the pole in the RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap feature event. Chas Wolbert (C3), from Howland, Ohio, would start next to him in second place, while Tony Tatgenhorst (63T), from Columbiana, Ohio would start in the third spot, and Connor King (19) would finish off the top two rows. When the green flag dropped, Slater (29) would retain an early lead, but it would be short-lived as Tatgenhorst (63T) would take over the lead on lap three. With Tatgenhorst (63T) still leading, a three-wide battle for second place was brewing behind him between Wolbert (C3), Krummert (10S), and Slater (29). Krummert (10S) would win the battle and take over the second spot after starting tenth. Tatgenhorst (63T) continued to dominate the event when a lap nine caution would force a restart. Tatgenhorst (63T) would lead the field on the restart with Krummert (10S) in second, Slater (29) in third, and Wolbert (C3) in fourth. Krummert (10S) had an awesome restart and he would steal the lead from Tatgenhorst (63T) and not look back, picking up his first PPMS victory of the season. He was followed to the line by Tatgenhorst (63T) in second, Wolbert (C3) in third, Slater (29) in fourth, Kole Holden (2) in fifth, Connor King (19) in sixth, Kyle Martel (8M) in seventh, Chelsie Kriegisch (10) in eighth, David Kalb Jr. (11J) in ninth, and Brian Sadler (5) would round out the top 10. Heat race winners were Krummert (10S) and Tatgenhorst (63T).

In the Elite Modified 20-lap feature, Eric Wilson (27B) from Cortland, Ohio would be the pole-sitter. Dustin Dematta (77D) would start to his outside in second place. When the field came under green flag conditions, Dematta (77D) would take the lead on the first lap, knocking Wilson (27B) back to second. With Dematta (77D) still leading, Ty Rhoades (12R) and Jeremy Double (83) would battle it out for second place for a few laps with Rhoades (12R) winning the battle. At the halfway point, Dematta (77D) continued to outpace the field and the event would go green to checkered in a very clean race. Dematta (77D) would take home his first PPMS victory of the season. Following him to the line was Rhoades (12R) in second, Wayne Tessean (7) in third, Brian Hutcko (60) in fourth, Wilson (27B) in fifth, Jeremy Double (83) in sixth, Nate Young (42) in seventh, Jarett Young (21) in eighth, Buzz Seitz (1) in ninth, and Colton Longwell (7L) in tenth. Heat race winners were Rhoades (12) and Wilson (27B).

As soon as the RUSH Sprint Car feature was over, John Mollick (60M) had to jump out of the sprint car and into this RUSH Late model for their 20-lap feature event. Mollick (60M) would start on the front row next to Scott Gunn (14G), from McDonald. Josh Stoica (22J), from New Cumberland, West Virginia would start in third, and Zachary Kane (10), from Washington, would start in fourth. Mollick (60M) would take the lead from Gunn (14G) on the first lap of the event. By lap six, and with Mollick (60M) still leading, Mollick (60M) and Gunn (14G) had already caught the tail of the field and would start to make their way through lapped-traffic. Lap nine saw the event’s first caution for the 22J of Stoica would spin out in turn two. Mollick (60M) chose the inside on the restart and would bring the field back to green flag conditions. Tommy Shirnhofer (8), from Dormont, had an awesome restart and would shoot to the front of the pack and challenge Mollick (60M) for the lead but Mollick (60M) would take the lead right back. Another yellow would come on lap 16 when Tom Duratz (55) would spin out at the back straight pit entrance. Again, Mollick (60M) would lead the field on the restart with Gunn (14G) in second, Schirnhofer (8) in third, and Christian Schneider in fourth. Mollick would lead the remaining four laps of the event, en route to his second PPMS win of the season and second win in a row. He was followed to the line by Gunn (14G) in second, Schneider (1ST) in third, Nico Dabecco (F1) in fourth, Schirnhofer (8) in fifth, Russ Kolesar (42D) in sixth, Justin Lamb (93X) in seventh, Ben Policz (14B) in eighth, Zach Gunn (17G) in ninth, and Ron Hall (01) in tenth. Heat race winners were Mollick (60M), Dabecco (F1), and Policz (14B). Another notable was, Christian Schneider (1ST) drove the entire race without power steering. Starting twelfth and finishing third.

Greg Beach (33X), from Chicora, dominated the PPMS Pro Stock division last season. In the off-season, he took a job as Alex Ferree’s (4) crew chief, which has limited his appearances at PPMS this season. In the PPMS Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Beach (33X) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second place was Joey Zambotti (948). Starting in third was Rob Shook (64S) and starting in fourth was A.J. Poljak (36), from Baldwin. When the green flag waved, track officials called a no-start. So, a complete restart would ensue. With four of the best Penn, Ohio Pro Stock drivers starting at the front of the pack, Beach (33X) would pull away to an early lead when the green flag dropped. Danny RIch (67X), from Imperial, started in the sixth spot, but by turns one and two, he had already made his way up to second place. Around the halfway point, Ryan Moyer (13) from Portersville, was in third after starting sixth and was hot on the heels of Rich (67X). Beach (33X) would lead the entire race, en route to his first PPMS win of the season. He was followed to the line by Rich (67X) in second, Moyer (13X) in third, Rob Shook (64S) in fourth, Zambotti (948) in fifth, A.J. Poljak (36) in sixth, Mike Harris (18) in seventh, Heath Close (77) in eighth, and Robert Betz (81) would round out the 9-car field. Another notable: The top three finishers are Anarchy Customs cars, which Beach (33X) owns.

In the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock 12-lap feature, Ed Shelpman (17P), from Pleasant Hills, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting second was Joe Anthony (221K), driving Karlee Kovacs’s car. Starting in third was Ben Anton (13), from Jefferson Hills and completing the second row was Matt Bernard (15B), from Oakdale. When the green flag waved, the caution came out as fast as the race started, which would require a complete restart. When the green flag waved for a second time, Anthony (221K) pulled out to an early lead and only one lap would be completed before Casey Grumling (77X), from Elrama, would come to a stop on the front straight just passed the flag stand, bringing out the caution. Anthony (221K) would lead the field on the restart but Dave McManus (171), from Elizabeth, was on the move after starting last due to a driver change. McManus (171) would move into second place on lap three and the caution would come out again on the same lap for the 05 of Frank Magill from Jefferson Hills. Again, Anthony (221K) would lead the field on the restart and when the green flag dropped, Anthony (221K), Mcmanus (171) and Marcus Simmons (68X), from Beaver Falls, went three-wide into turn one, battling for the lead. McManus (171) would come out with the lead and never look back, en route to his first PPMS Hobby Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by Ed Shelpman (17S) in second, Anthony (221K) in third, Simmons (68X) in fourth, Andrew Sutton (16A) in fifth, John Hollister (11) in sixth, A.J. Poljak (17P) in seventh, Tom Anton (313) in eighth, Matt Bernard (15B) in ninth, and Frank Magill (05) in tenth. Heat race winners were Ed Shelpman (17S) and Ben Anton (13).

In the Four Cylinder eight-lap feature, Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was John Gill (19G), from Burgettstown would start in second, while the dominator, Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio would complete the three-car field. When the green flag dropped, it didn’t take Garlinger (R88) long to take over the lead. C. Rudolph (5R) had car trouble and was forced to enter the pits around the halfway point and eventually, Gill (19G) had car trouble also. Galinger (R88) would cruise to another PPMS victory. Gill (19G) finished second, and C. Rudolph finished third. The four cylinders did not run a heat race.

Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, Ohio, was excited to get back to racing after a few weeks off and she continued to dominate the Young Guns feature. Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would start on the pole in the eight-lap feature. To his outside and starting in second was Brendan Miskevics (44B). The second row consisted of S. Rudolph (55) in third, and Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, in fourth, while Tony Magill (44), from Jefferson Hills, rounded out the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, S. Rudolph would grab the early lead over the field. A caution on lap two would slow the pace and S. Rudolph (55) would lead the field on the restart. S. Rudolph (55) would lead the entire race, picking up another PPMS win. Following her to the line was Janas (88) in second, C. Hollister (44) in third, T. Magill (44) in fourth, and Miskevics (44B) in fifth. Young Guns did not run a heat race.
