Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2017) – Brandon Hanks progressed throughout the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

“We had a good car all weekend,” he said. “I fell back one spot in the heat race to finish fifth. But with the tire situation the way it was and the way our budget is this year we decided to park the car. You were going to have to put on new tires every time you hit the track. I had a brand new tire for that heat race and in eight laps it was blistered.”

Hanks had advanced into a qualifier based on his heat race result, but the team elected to conserve tires by parking the car for the remainder of Night 1 at the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

“On Saturday we walked up and down the pits to try to find any used tires that we thought would make it,” he said. “We found six right rears and we mounted everybody’s used stuff and decided we’d race. We didn’t burn up a tire. The race track was excellent and very racy.”

Hanks battled a tight race car during his heat race, in which he finished where he started – eighth. That lined him up last in a qualifier.

“We passed three cars in the qualifier, which put me in a decent spot in a B Main,” he said. “We had a rocket in the B Main. I could go from the top and drive across the slick and hit the good stuff coming off the bottom in turn two. I could really make up a lot of time.”

Hanks maneuvered from sixth to second place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“We marched our way through the field,” he said. “We had a great car. I hate that we got behind in the heat race, but we rebounded pretty well. That was probably the most fun I’ve had at that track. That was some of the best racing and some of the most fun I’ve had in a sprint car ever.”

Hanks charged from 20th to an 11th-place result.

He will take this weekend off before making his 410ci winged sprint car season debut on April 21 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz and April 22 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Spring Classic with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
