Blake Hahn Rebounds To Earn Hard Charger Award During Texas Motor Speedway Finale

SAPULPA, Okla. (April 10, 2017) An up and down weekend for Blake Hahn at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track ended with a silver lining as Hahn fought back from adversity to earn his first CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Entering this past weekend’s event at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track with great speed, the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 was fastest in Thursday practice and carried that speed over into Friday night, but would not have the results to show for it as Hahn tested the integrity of the turn-two catch fence during the opening of Tony Stewart’s Texas Sprint Car Nationals presented by Machinery Auctioneers.

“We had a good car, just made too many mistakes and one of those resulted in junking our car on Friday night,” said Hahn. “We put ourselves in good position in the qualifier and had a real chance to start near the front of the A-Main, but I hooked the berm and spun. Luckily we avoided the B-Main, but the spin put us 14th in the feature.”

Running just outside the top-ten, Hahn would try to roll the middle of the track, but the move would have devastating consequences.

“It was hard to pass. The track was pretty much around the bottom, and when I tried to step out and roll around Skylar [Gee] I ended up jumping his right rear. The flip was violent, but the landing is what really hurt. I just about hit the top of the fence and by then, all the suspension was loose. Luckily we had the crash pad in the seat, and tethers on the rear end, otherwise it would have hurt a lot worse. All I can say, is Advil as my friend Friday night.”

Pulling the spare JR1 out of the rafters, the team was back in action on Saturday night with a fourth place performance in Heat Race competition. Good enough to make a Qualifier, the result would be a trip to a B-Main.

“The car didn’t feel right and we figured out that the dished wing was unbalancing the car. We had been running a flat wing, but the only one I had was destroyed. Luckily, Jared Sewell let us borrow his spare wing. Once we bolted that on, it made all the difference in the world.”

Winning the B-Feature, Hahn would advance from 17th to seventh in the feature event.

“The car was great in the feature. The track really started coming to us and we just kept getting better. The restarts played well for us, but really, to be able to come back from what we ran into Friday to pick up the Hard Charger on Saturday, it felt really good. It sucks we had to work so hard, but I can’t thank everyone who help us enough.”

Looking ahead, Hahn is slated to take on the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo. on Saturday, April 15 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
