Joey Tanner Repeats Doug Walters Classic Victory; Winebarger, A. Case, And Captain Turnabout Also Get Wins

Banks, Oregon- After a week off Sunset Speedway Park would return to racing on Saturday, August 26th, for the 9th Annual Doug Walters Classic. One of the marquee events of the "Banks Bullring" it pays tribute to the late owner/operator of SSP, Doug Walters. Classes in action included the Super Late Models, Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks, and 4-Bees.
The sixty-seven lap Super Late Model main event would be a non-stop action packed affair. Portland's Joey Tanner obtained the top spot on lap three and held off the competition to win his second consecutive Doug Walters Classic. In a spirited battle for the race lead Collen Winebarger, out of Corbett, got the job done in the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds to pick up his second win of 2017 at Sunset.
Defending track champion Arnie Case, out of Vancouver, Washington, was the class of the field in the Bridgeport Logistic Street Stocks and obtained his third win of the campaign. Fellow Vancouver, Washington helmsman Captain Turnabout would take the loot for his first successful raid of the year in the 4-Bee ranks.
Sunset Speedway Park will be off for Labor Day Weekend but returns to racing on Saturday, September 9th for 98.7 The Bull Night. Classes racing includes the Budweiser Wingless Sprint Series, Dwarf Cars, New Bees, and both classes of 600cc Micro Sprints. The Dwarfs will have both the Northwest Dwarf Car and Pacific Hardtop Racing Association clubs in attendance. For more information log on to www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
