Banks, Oregon- After a wild and crazy Independence Day bash Sunset Speedway Park is set to get back to racing on Saturday, July 8th for the 19th Annual Jim’s Thriftway Open Street Stock National 100. This is the biggest race for the Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks in 2017. Also racing will be the Dwarf Cars, New Bees, and both classes of Micro Sprints.
The winner of Saturday night’s feature will collect a cool $1000.00 in addition to claiming to have won this premier event. Past winners in the last few years have been Ron Jermann (2012), Craig Loomis (2013), Tony Catalano (2014), Kyle Yeack (2015), and Arnie Case (2016). The race was started in 1999.
As far as rules go all cars must abide by their home track rules packages. So for example if you race at Sunset Speedway Park you fall under Sunset rules. This also goes for Street Stocks that race at either Willamette Speedway, Cottage Grove Speedway, River City Speedway, or Grays Harbor Raceway. You CANNOT mix and match with other rules packages.
In 2017 Arnie Case, Joey Tardio, Chris West, and Joey Tanner have captured victories in the Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks. There were two non-point races ran during the Monster Truck weekend and witnessed Jack Parshall and Rod Lowe collecting wins.
Ryan Martinez has three Dwarf Car wins at SSP and is currently the only repeat main event victor. Shane Youngren, Jake Van Ortwick, and Jimmy Brinster have parked it in victory lane one time each. The New Bees have yet to see a repeat winner this season as Taylor Sayre, Bailey Jackson, and Travis Zimmerly have won features.
In the Micros Sprints both classes have yet to see a repeat winner. In the Open division Derek Torkelson, Casey Starr, Chance Crum, and Colby Thornhill are the drivers that have made it to victory lane. In the Restricted ranks Braden Maltais, Lane Taylor, Colby Thornhill, and Dakota Drake have earned wins.
Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Time Trials begin at 5:30, with Racing kicking off at 6:30. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00.
