Banks, Oregon- The Wild West Modified Shootout would return to racing after a day off. Wednesday, June 28th would take the tour to Sunset Speedway Park and the most northernmost destination on the schedule. Thirty-two cars would inhabit the pit area from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and Montana as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
When the green flag would drop Collen Winebarger would pounce on the advantage of his inside front row starting position. The Corbett driver would be in firm control of the race lead for quite some time. By lap fifteen the leader would hit some incredibly heavy lapped traffic.
Jesse Williamson would strategically maneuver around the slower cars and eventually put significant pressure on Winebarger. Williamson, out of Eugene, would make the pass around Winebarger on lap nineteen. He would remain in the distance the rest of the way to win his first victory of the 2017 Wild West Modified Shootout, third career series win at SSP, and his ninth career Mod Speedweek triumph. The main event would go non-stop without any incidents and all twenty cars that started the race would finish.
Collen Winebarger was second followed by Bakersfield, California’s Ethan Dotson in third. Vancouver, Washington driver Aaron Elwess placed fourth over fifth finishing Bricen James, out of Albany. Salem veteran Jeremy Shank and Albany ace Craig Cassell were the two consolation feature winners.
Drivers that would pick up win the first round of heat races were Jesse Williamson, Collen Winebarger, Brian Pearce, and Ethan Dotson. In the second round Brian Thompson, Winebarger, Brad Martin, and Aaron Elwess were the victors.
The Wild West Modified Shootout heads next to Willamette Speedway for three straight nights of action. It will be the first time the tour will end with a three race finale at the same facility. All the latest news and updates can be found on the Wild West Modified Shootout Facebook page.
