EL PASO, Texas (June 21, 2017) Taking in the 2017 ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, John Carney II rated his seven nights, with nine A-Features between ASCS and 305cid action, as solid for the MVT/Lubbock Wrecker Service No. 11x team.

“Overall it was a good week. We had some really good runs and nearly won two with the ASCS,” said Carney.

Starting off on June 9 at West Texas Raceway, Carney kicked off Speedweek with a fourth place finish. Following up at Route 66 Motor Speedway the following night, the No. 11x passed for the lead in the feature event only to have his right rear tire expire. The night wasn’t a complete loss however as John found the top of the podium in 305cid competition in the Steward Builders No. 224.

Back on track at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on June 13, Carney placed sixth. A seventh place showing at Lawton Speedway the following night, the team headed north to Creek County Speedway where the night ended with a DNF due to a unavoidable crash.

Evaluating the forecast for Missouri, the team opted to move south and join up with the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region at Bronco Motor Speedway on June 16.

“The weather in Missouri looked like it could turn on us, and all my help had to go back to work. I really wanted to finish out the whole Speedweek, but sometimes other things step in and change your plans,” explained John of the decision to return to Texas.

Passing for third at Bronco, contact from the No. 88 of Scottie McDonald ended John’s night early, and in turn, bent the bottom right corner of the car.

“When I got crashed, it bent the car where the Jacobs Ladder bolts on, so I had to drill the Ladder Straps to make it work right. Let’s just say she handled a little funny the next night,” chuckled Carney who ended up racing to a runner-up finish after starting fourth.

While most find themselves ready for a break, John is pumped and ready for more.

“I could do another Speedweek right now. I’ve never raced that many nights in a row, so it was really interesting but I liked it. I enjoyed the challenge.”

The plans for now is to return to the track this Friday and Saturday with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products at Heartland Park Topeka and Caney Valley Raceway.
