Flud Records Three Top Fives While Debuting New Race Car
Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 5, 2021) – Frank Flud broke in a brand new race car last weekend at Port City Raceway, where he debuted his 1 Way Performance chassis.
“I came home with two seconds, a fourth and then we caught fire twice Friday so it was eventful,” he said. “We went through new car stuff with little things happening.”
On Friday Flud won a Winged ‘A’ Class heat race before he advanced from fifth to second place in the main event – a race in which his car caught on fire.
“The new brakes were throwing sparks everywhere,” he said. “I guess my seat cushion had enough oil soaked in it that it finally caught fire. There was a red and under the red is when it sparked up. They ran over to me with the fire extinguisher and put it out. I just restarted and kept going.”
Flud wasn’t as fortunate in Non-Wing competition. He picked up a position to place fourth in a heat race before winning the B Main. However, the night ended early in the A Main with another fire.
“We had a fuel fire early,” he said. “It got a lot bigger real quick so I realized there was something big happening.”
Saturday’s show was smoother for Flud, who rallied from seventh to third place in a Winged ‘A’ Class heat race before scoring a runner-up result in the feature for the second straight night.
He advanced from seventh to second place in the Non-Wing heat race and finished fourth in the main event.
“The weekend had good and bad,” he said. “Never getting to practice the car, just putting it together and going to the track, it was a good weekend. We just need to tweak on it some and get some things worked out.”
Flud plans on venturing to Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo., for the Show-Me Showdown this weekend. He will compete in the Stock Non-Wing, Winged ‘A’ Class and Outlaw Winged divisions.
“I’d love to come out of there with a couple of wins, but I’m hoping to at least get a podium in every class,” he said.
