Iron-Man Late Model Series
Rice Grabs Mudlick Valley Raceway $10,000 Payday with Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels
WALLINGFORD, KENTUCKY (June 15, 2024)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels would make its first-ever appearance at Mudlick Valley Raceway in Wallingford, KY on Saturday evening in an event presented by Jent Logging and Story Realty and Josh Rice of Crittenden, KY would take the lead from Ryan Missler on lap thirty-eight and hang on to win a thriller and take home a $10,000 payday.
The win by the 25-year-old Rice was his first of the season with the tour and his fourteenth career series victory. Rice would drive the Rick Jones owned Rocket Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine with sponsorship from Sunesis Holdings, MC Tank Transportation, Extreme Sportswear, Rice Excavating and Plumbing, Chain Locker, Air Max Heating and Cooling, Grease Monkey Princess, Schaeffer’s Oil, and Sunoco Race Fuels.
The start of the Valvoline A-Main event presented by Jent Logging and Story Realty would see a tangle ensue in turn two on the opening circuit of the contest that would see Billy Green and Tristan Chamberlain have their nights finished. The second start would see R.J. Conley grab the race lead, followed by Ryan Missler, Rod Conley, Josh Rice, and Cody Mahoney. R.J. Conley would maintain a comfortable advantage, while Rice would slip past Rod Conley for third on lap four. Missler would close in on R.J. Conley for the race lead and the pair would battle side-by-side for the lead on lap eight before Missler would take the race lead on lap nine. Missler and Conley would continue to battle as they began lapping slower traffic on lap twelve and the pair would get in heavy traffic by lap fourteen. This would allow Rice to close in on the front pair and Rice would make a turn two slidejob pass of Conley on lap seventeen for the second position. The caution waved again on lap eighteen for a car slowed in turn two and during that caution, third place R.J. Conley would pull into the Keltner Contracting Work Area with a flat tire and get it replaced and return to action. Missler would maintain the lead on the restart, with Rice, Rod Conley, thirteenth starting Devin Shiels, and Mahoney giving chase. Fourteenth starting Rusty Schlenk would work his way through the pack as well and take the fifth position from Mahoney on lap nineteen and claim fourth from Shiels five circuits later on lap twenty-four. The caution would appear for the final time in the event on lap twenty-seven when Dusty Moore after he spun in turn two. This restart would see business pick up at the point as Rice, Missler, and Rod Conley would race three-wide through turns one and two, with Rice briefly nosing out in front, however, Missler would maintain the lead at the start/finish line, with Schlenk and Shiels fourth and fifth. Schlenk would grab third from Rod Conley on lap thirty, while Missler and Rice would drive away from the field. Rice closed in on Missler on lap thirty-six and the pair would trade slidejobs for the lead, with Rice claiming the top spot for good on lap thirty-eight. Rice would keep Missler at bay and score the victory, with Missler finishing second and Schlenk claiming third. Rod Conley and Cody Mahoney would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Devin Shiels, Seth Daniels, twenty-first starting Casey Noonan, R.J. Conley, and Derek Fisher.
