Crawley wins tuneup Saturday before Sportsman Nationals at Illinois State Fair next weekend

MACON—It was a solid night of racing at Macon Speedway even though the clouds looked unfavorable for any dirt track racing on Saturday.

In the final tune-up for the Springfield Mile Sportsman Nationals, Dave Crawley, Jr. took the win. It was a close finish but he had the checkered flag in hand at the end of the 15 laps.

Chad Evans took the top spot in the Billingsley Towing Modifieds as he held off Cory Daugherty and Guy Taylor for the win, his first of the season.

In the Street Stock feature, Terry Reed took the lead in the early goings on a miscue by multi-time feature winner Bobby Beiler and refused to lose as Nick Justice closed in but finished second.

An appearance by the Beach House Mini Sprints helped bring Aaron Andruskevitch into victory lane. The Riverton native blew away the competition during the long series of green flag laps.

BJ Deal made it two-in-a-row in the B-Mods as the Brownstown native was locked in from the bottom side of the speedway.

And in the Outlaw Hornets, Adam Webb, the defending National Hornet Champion, won over Thad Gee. Garth Luka once again dominated in the Stock Hornet class.

In the Bud Light Ladies Night event, Laurel Phipps and Brianna Livingston were the top two drivers to come out of the five-car, five-lap race to advance to the Ladies Night Championship in September. The ladies racing were representing Woody’s Bar.

A full weekend of racing is scheduled next weekend as Macon Speedway and Track Enterprises host annual events at the Illinois State Fair and Macon Speedway. First, Saturday afternoon at the State Fair, the USAC Silver Crown cars along with Sportsman Nationals heat races. Then, Saturday night at Macon Speedway, POWRi Midgets & Micro Sprints will race double features to make up the events rained out earlier this season. The stock car classes running are the Billingsley Towing Modifieds, Street Stocks and the Outlaw & Stock Hornets. Finally, on the final day of the Illinois State Fair, the Sportsman Nationals Feature event plus the ARCA stock cars.
