Lakeside Speedway Season Opener a Few Weeks Away!

(Kansas City, Kansas) When race engines roar back to life in mid-April at Kansas City’s oldest sporting venue, so begins the 67th season of action at Lakeside Speedway! One significant change that drivers and fans will recognize upon arriving at the track is the return to NASCAR for sanctioning of the weekly racing series for the first time since 2004.
The first event for the new season is a practice event on Friday, April 9th from 4 to 9 p.m. The session is open to all dirt-oval car classes. There are 16 weekly race series nights of action planned with 12 additional nights of various special events racing featuring Super Late Models, winged and non-winged Sprint Cars, and Modifieds. Additionally, there are four Saturdays on the schedule for motorcycle racing during the Great Plains Flat Track Series appearances.
Recently, nearby Central Missouri Speedway announced the sanctioning of their weekly race series under the NASCAR banner, which created a two-night race scenario for several divisions to compete under the NASCAR banner for track, regional (Midwest), and national championships.
Track General Manager, Pete Howey, stated, “During the off-season we placed over 2,000 yards of new dirt on the track to improve the racing surface and we’ve also been busy with additional improvements as the season draws closer. We want to ensure everything is ready and the grounds look nice when drivers and fans return.”
Another change made during the off-season includes a purse bump for many of the weekly classes. The revised official payouts are conveniently located on the track’s website at www.lakesidespeedway.net, by clicking on the Rules/Forms link.
Also available on the site are rules, expected points fund payouts, the season schedule, various track general forms, registration forms, IRS forms, minor release forms and the MyRacePass.com driver profile form. Drivers are encouraged to be proactive and print and fill out paperwork prior to arrival on their first night of competition to save time in the registration and pit area lines.
Throughout the season, standard times include: Pits Open 5 pm, Grandstands Open 6 pm, Pill Draw Closes at 6:45 pm, Pit Meeting at 7 pm, Hot Laps at 7:15 pm with Racing at 7:45 pm. (or immediately following hot laps).
