Bill Willard Sr Stirling Silver Cup and Kids Box Car Races This Saturday Night
THOROLD, ONTARIO (August 1st, 2023) … Merrittville Speedway is back in action with the traditional Civic Holiday doubleheader weekend. It all kicks off on Saturday, August 5, as 2 Cool Automotive presents the Bill Willard Sr Stirling Silver Cup for the DIRTcar Sportsman, plus a full Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series program and Kid’s Box Car Races.
Being involved with Merrittville Speedway since nearly its inception, it is hard to not talking about the Willard family and their involvement with racing in Niagara. The Willard’s cars could easily be recognized by their bright red paint, trimmed in black and white lettering, with large numerals, usually with a #7 in them on the doors. Throughout the years, the Willard family and now with the fourth generation with Tyler Willard and Cody McPherson racing and winning races, the tradition has continued and is flourishing. Inducted into the CAA Wall of Fame in 1990, and in honor of Bill Sr, the #77 and #777 were retired at Merrittville Speedway.
Pit gates will open at 5pm, with grandstands opening at 5:30pm, and racing will get underway at 7:00pm on Saturday night.
