World Of Outlaws invade Willamette Speedway tonight
By Ben Deatherage (Lebanon, OR) -- "The Greatest Show On Dirt" heads to Willamette Speedway on Wednesday, September 6th. The World Of Outlaw Sprint Series will have their one and only stop in state of Oregon on the 2017 schedule at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval. Super Late Models will play the role of support class for the evening.
The Outlaws have ventured to the Lebanon facility a total of four times producing four different winners. Australian Kerry Madsen won the inaugural trip in 2012 while Tim Kaeding, Shane Stewart, and Donny Schatz have also graced victory lane. The series has been to Willamette Speedway every year, beginning in 2012, with the exception of 2015.
Over eighteen teams that were in attendance at the events up at Skagit Speedway this past weekend are expected to be on hand. They include the two most victorious drivers in 2017 current points leader Donny Schatz of North Dakota and Connecticut's David Gravel. California will be represented by Brad Sweet and Dominic Scelzi while Tennessee pilots Paul McMahan, originally from the Golden State, and Jason Sides have made the journey west.
Amazingly Ohio have three drivers from the Buckeye state with the father/son combo of Jac and Sheldon Haudenschild as well as Greg Wilson. Pennsylvania will have Brent Marks and Logan Schuchart on hand while the two Indiana drivers Kraig Kinser and Jacob Allen are expected to be in the field. Two drivers to look out for are Oklahoma natives Shane Stewart and Daryn Pittman.
Warnambool, Victoria, Australia driver Jamie Veal makes his 410 debut at Willamette. He has one career start back in 2011 during Speedweek Northwest in a 360 Sprint. Louisiana will be represented by Jason Johnson and the lone Missourian is Clyde Knipp. Be sure to be on the lookout for Pacific Northwest drivers Jason Solwold and Austen Wheatley both from the state of Washington but don't be surprised if British Columbian Robbie Price or Oregon's Roger Crockett shows up either.
Super Late Models have been the support class on just a single occasion, in 2014, when the Outlaws have been in town. John Duty was the winner of that race. The class is coming off of a two-day weekend last Saturday and Sunday which witnessed some very strong car counts.
