By Ben Deatherage
Lebanon, Oregon- Sunday, September 3rd will see the Radiator Supply House Road To The Iron Giant Series face off at Willamette Speedway for the final race of the 2017 campaign. The tour has visited five different tracks over the course of the campaign and has produced five different winners. Donald Schott, Ron Brewster, Kyle Yeack, Nick Hanson, and David Cronk have all managed to procure victories.
Sunday's main event will start twenty-four cars going fifty laps in distance. As of press time the race is $2,000.00 to win and $120.00 to start. That number is expected to grow. The winner will receive a gigantic Iron Giant trophy courtesy of Hilltop Racing and powder coated by Jordan McDonald.
In addition to the trophy the Radiator Supply House Road To The Iron Giant Series champion will be declared. Currently Kyle Yeack has a sizable lead over the rest of the competition in the points table. Yeack's only win with the tour came at the Wallbanger Cup at Cottage Grove Speedway in June.
In 2017 Willamette Speedway has had thirteen Street Stock races producing six different winners. Kyle Yeack and Brian Cronk are tied with the most wins, at three, while two-time victors include Andrew Langan, David Cronk, and Kevin Roberts. Justin Evans is the only driver to have won once at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval this season.
Kyle Yeack is the defending race winner with an exciting last lap pass and also won the race in 2012. Also in the 2016 edition fifty-seven cars signed the registration sheets and filled the pit area.
“Car count is looking to be very close to last year,” commented Chris Sine, “there is no doubt it is once again going to be a fun race for both competitors and race fans.”
Several contingency prizes are on the table for teams. $100.00 will go to the quickest driver in Qualifying, winner of the slow Trophy Dash, winner of the fast Trophy Dash, and the Hard Luck Award in the feature all thanks to Sureflow Concrete Pumping Services.
