Lebanon, Oregon- Not only will be Saturday, August 19th, will not only feature a large IMCA Modified payday at Willamette Speedway it will also see a sizable Hornet purse up for grabs. The Great American Hornet Challenge, presented by AAMCO Transmissions and Total Car Care of Newport, Corvallis, and Lebanon, returns for the second year in a row at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval. A great field of cars are expected to be in attendance as the winner gets $750.00 and it is $50.00 to start.
The format (listed below) is tailored to specific car counts such as the number of heat races and consolation features. What will remain constant is that car will participate in qualifying in groups of five and their fastest of three timed laps will be their official time. The main event will have twenty cars start and is scheduled for thirty laps in distance.
Tracy Muse is the driver to beat in 2017. The defending track champion has amassed a total of six wins in the current campaign. Crystal Flath, John Gartner, and Sam Potter are drivers that have one win to their credit. Tylor Owen managed to best the field last season after taking the lead on lap ten and dominated the rest of the way.
Please plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time on getting to Willamette Speedway as there is some extremely heavy traffic predicted for the upcoming eclipse. We want to make sure no one misses a lap of the action.
