Lebanon, Oregon- The Wild West Modified Shootout would roll into Willamette Speedway on Thursday, June 29th, for the sixth race of the week. It would mark the first of three straight nights of racing at the 1/3-mile clay oval. Thirty-eight cars would make up the field from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Montana, and Nevada as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Ethan Dotson would have a smooth Thursday night drive when it came to the main event. The Bakersfield, California native would take full advantage of his front row starting position to seize the lead on the opening start. Dotson would dominate the entirety and the cautions came out just at the right time before lapped traffic would play a factor. With Dotson’s win it would be the second time he has done so this week and makes him the only repeat feature winner thus far.

Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, was a respectable second with Sweet Home’s Brian Thompson, via the B Main, placing an impressive third. The rest of the top five would consist of Kellen Chadwick, out of Oakley, California, in fourth and fifth finishing Cory Sample, from Winnemucca, Nevada, who had to come from the back after getting caught up in a lap one incident. Two consolation features were ran with Albany driver Dustin Cady and Brian Thompson being the winners.

The first round of heat races were won by Dustin Cady, Jeff Lovell, Collen Winebarger, and Ethan Dotson. Second round heat winners were Brian Thompson, Danny Lauer, Cory Sample, and John Campos.

Willamette Speedway hosts the Wild West Modified Shootout on Friday and Saturday night for the final two nights of racing for the 2017 schedule. It means two more nights until a champion is crowned, two more nights for two different winners, or two more nights to see some more repetition in the winner’s circle.
