Lebanon, Oregon- Saturday, June 3rd would be the historical Strawberry Cup, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, at Willamette Speedway. The event’s history stretches as far back as the 1960’s and is one of the most coveted events to win. Classes in action include the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, and Street Stocks.
Collen Winebarger would record his second consecutive Strawberry Cup victory in the Super Late Models. It also marked the second feature win of the season in the division for the Corbett chauffeur. Bend’s Rob Mayea and Trent Elliott, from LaPine, were second and third respectively. Joey Tanner, of Portland, finished fourth followed by fifth finishing Albany teenager Bricen James.
Bricen James, pulling double duty, would park it in the winner’s circle in the IMCA Modifieds. It is the first win for James in the Mods in 2017. Cottage Grove’s Curtis Towns was the runner-up with Matthew Drager, of Albany, behind him in third. The rest of the top five would be made up of Keizer native John Campos and Salem veteran Jeremy Shank in fourth and fifth. A consolation feature was ran earlier in the program and would witness Derrick Young, from the eastern Oregon town of Hines, winning it.
Salem driver Gill Pickett would get the job done in the Super Sport ranks. It is the third Strawberry Cup win in the Supers, for Pickett, since 2013 and he became the third different winner in as many races. Jordan Wright, of Toledo, and Albany ace Randy Barley were the second and third place finishers. Crossing the wire in fourth was Dave Miller, from Coos Bay, and Lebanon’s James Slover grabbed fifth.

Sandy Sanders, out of Junction City, recorded as second place result over third finishing Casey Rhoades, hailing from Lebanon. Lebanon native Jeff Rash and Eric Lindquist, of the Portland area, were fourth and fifth.
