Corbin McHenry Gets His First Career Feature Win!
Corbin McHenry has been watching races at Lawrenceburg Speedway pretty much his entire life. As a fan, McHenry would cheer on his favorite drivers from the stands and the pits. Fast forward to 2024, where McHenry is now a contender in the Impact Sports’ Pure Stock series every week. Although a contender, McHenry had still been searching for that elusive first career win. McHenry would start from the inside of row 2 of the 15-lap feature and settled into 2nd place as the lead went to John Heaston on the opening lap. McHenry was able to sneak around Heaston on the inside on lap 3 before settling down as the race leader. Chasing down McHenry was none other than multi-time and defending Pure Stock track champion, Joel Andrews. Andrews was closing the gap to McHenry with each passing lap. McHenry, being the race leader controlled the racing lanes and he kept his car glued to the bottom of the racetrack. McHenry knew that the only chance Andrews had of passing him was to get to his inside. Andrews got close on more than one occasion but McHenry kept his car on the bottom groove and Andrews could not make the pass unless he bumped him out of the way. Andrews raced McHenry clean and McHenry had the race of his life to keep Andrews behind him all the way to the checkered flag! McHenry was absolutely elated to pick up his first career feature win. He celebrated in victory lane with his family which was extra special as his dad, Shane McHenry, became the track promoter of the speedway this year. Andrews finished second followed by Gary Hume, Mike Ackman, and John Heaston. Heat race winners were McHenry and Ackman. The Impact Sports Pure Stocks return to Lawrenceburg on Saturday June 22nd.
