Fisher Files – Runner-Up at LA!

(Bill W) April 12, 2010 – Josh Fisher of Smithton, Missouri charged from the tenth starting spot to second in the season opener for the Winged Outlaw Warriors on Saturday night. The event, held at LA Raceway in La Monte, Missouri, drew twenty-two of the “Show-Me” state’s finest. The competition will go up another notch this weekend, as Josh tries to capture the $3,000 Spring Nationals at Lake Ozark Speedway near Eldon.

With your heat finish determining your A main starting spot, Josh had some work to do, starting inside row four in heat one. He did what he could to grab fourth. “The track slicked up early, and it was pretty hard to pass,” he says. “I really got all the cars I passed on the start in the first half a lap. That’s where I made my move.”

The finish put Josh outside of row five for the 20-lap main event. “I was able to make a couple of passes there at the beginning,” he says. “We got up close to the top five. We had a good battle with Cody Baker there for awhile, and a good one with Austin Alumbaugh.”

The 2007 National Sprint Car 360 Rookie of Year continued his surge despite the track taking some black. “It started taking rubber on about lap ten,” says Josh. “I was one of the first to find it. The line was on the bottom, and you had to get right down there so you could get off the corner.”

With four laps to go, the caution came out just as Josh was taking the third spot. “I had passed (third place) Alumbaugh right before a late caution there,” he shares. “I had to go behind him on the restart and do it again. If that wouldn’t have happened, I probably could have run down (Jonathan) Cornell. Getting by Alumbaugh and (second place) Eric Todd let him get out there.”

The finish should give the youngster some confidence going into Saturday’s race at Lake Ozark Speedway. He was victorious in last September’s $4,000 LOS Nationals, and hopes to keep the streak going in his bid for $3,000 this week. “We ran about eighth the week before the Nationals (last Fall),” he says. “At that point, I didn’t give us much of a chance, but it ended up going good for us.”
