Fisher Files – Lake Ozark Sweep!

(Bill W) July 6, 2010 – Josh Fisher found himself on top of the heap for the second time in 2010 at the Lake Ozark Speedway near Eldon, Missouri last Saturday night. Included was a sweep of the heat, dash and the main event. The Smithton, Missouri driver led every lap in route to the victory, and will try it again this Saturday night in the Ozark Barge & Dock Service #86.

A little luck came in the form of Josh’s car owners when he races on Friday nights in Jacksonville. Also, problems surrounding a ground wire with the mag that surfaced a week earlier seemed rectified. “Rick and Ricky Northrop came over from Jacksonville, and I told them, ‘I can’t draw for nothing here’”, says the 2007 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum 360 Rookie of the Year. “Ricky drew a three for me and that set up the whole night.”

Josh found himself on the pole in his heat race, and went on to win. The finish put him outside of row one for the dash, and again he drove away. The 1/3 mile oval was in good shape, and starting from the pole, the 2009 Winged Outlaw Warriors champion led the field wire to wire. “The track stayed pretty heavy all night,” says Josh. “The cushion was a little over halfway to the wall and the track was good if you were up front, like I was.”

Friday night was a bit of a different story. Track conditions were the biggest culprit as Josh climbed into Rick Northrop’s #83 410 sprint car for the $2,500 to win Leon Smith Memorial at the Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois. Starting tail in his heat, Josh picked his way forward a couple of spots to seventh. “We weren’t too good in the heat, and it was tough to pass our way up to seventh,” he says. “It was black slick in hot laps.”

With the banked ¼ mile yielding a one-lane groove of rubber around the bottom, it was tough for Josh to duplicate his last top five run in the 410 a few weeks back. “The track took rubber early on, and really there weren’t opportunities to pass,” he says. “We started 13th and that’s where we stayed.”

With the Morgan County Fair going on in Jacksonville on Friday, there will be no races. Josh’s only action looks to be at the Lake on Saturday night where he will seek his third feature win of the season there.
