Newcomer Mike Mitchell Takes the Checkers in the Sportsman Modifieds Main Event
Hudson, NH- Racers and fans were treated to a beautiful day for racing and celebrating Father’s Day. It was a warm day and the racing action was heated too! First time competitor in the MacMulkin Chevrolet Sportsman Modifieds Mike Mitchell (40) parked his new ride P1 while Jessica Coulter (5), making her first start back at Hudson Speedway in the Ridge Runners took the win as well! Familiar faces found there ways back to victory lane with Justin “The Cabana Boy” Beecher (57) taking the win in the Northeast Imports Super Streets, Michael Yeaton (25NH) in the Granite State Indoor Range Six Shooters, and Carlos Grenier (1NH) in the MLM Diagnostic Services Pure Stocks.
The MLM Diagnostic Pure Stocks saw the 08 of JoJo Roberts and the 71 of Shayla Kirk getting the heat race wins. Scotty Blanchard in the 56MA and Kirk led the field to the green. Kirk would lead the first 14 laps before she would spin entering turn 1 avoiding a lap car. Carlos Grenier (1NH) would assume the lead. Lap 18 the caution would fly for Roberts who came to rest at the bottom of turn 4 with a flat tire. Grenier would hold off the challenges of Mackenzie Belisle (21) to take the win. Belisle would cross the line in 2nd but would be found to have illegal camber in post race tech. Chris Quin (76) ran a clean and quiet race that allowed him to get himself into 3rd place at the finish and would be the benefactor of the post race DQ to earn himself a 2nd place finish. Kirk rebounded from her spin to earn the 3rd place finish. Jaimielynn Flannery (01) was credited with the 4th place finish and Blanchard assumed the 5th spot!
The Ridge Runners saw Callie Osborne (59) collect her first heat race win of the season! Osborne would get the start on the pole in the feature and would lead the first 14 laps of the race before contact from the 47 of Brian Caswell spun her out and bringing out the caution. Jessica Coulter (5) assumed the lead as Caswell was sent to the rear. Mike Dube in the 51 gave chase until lap 18 when his dead end with him going to the pits with mechanical issues then a lap later the caution would fly as Ricky Marrocco’s number 7 made hard contact with the back stretch wall ending his day as well. Coulter would be joined by Aiden White (5w), Coulter was able to hold the lead as White would feel pressure from Osborne as she had worked her way back into the top 3. Over the last few laps of the race White would get sideways a few times as the handling on his car started to go awry and on the last lap Osborne was able to sneak by out of turn 2. Coulter was able to capture the win with Osborne in 2nd, and White in 3rd. Caswell finished 4th and Tyler Johns (32) rounded out the top 5. While many a father and son combination have competed against one another today fans witnessed mother/daughter compete and finish first and second with Coulter and Osborne!
Northeast Imports Super Streets were next on the schedule, with Chuck Dehney (33W) taking the heat race win. Dehney and Austin “Porkchop” Erickson (22) led the field to the green with assuming the lead but it would be short lived as Justin “The Cabana Boy” Beecher (57) took the lead on lap 3. Erickson would go with Beecher around Dehney to take the 2nd spot. Beecher would control the top spot as Erickson would give chase for the remaining 22 laps. Beecher collected his second win of the season at the High Banks of Hudson Speedway. Erickson finished 2nd with Dehney in 3rd, John Morin (30) finished 4th and Stephen Dubois (213) in the 5th spot!
MacMulkin Chevrolet Sportsman Modifieds saw Tyler Leary in the 11x taking the heat race win. Herve Thibodeau (2) and Mike Mitchell (40) started on the front row for the feature, but it would be Mitchell taking the early lead with Thibodeau in tow. Jeremy Zullo (46) gave a hard charge from his fourth starting spot to take the 2nd spot from Thibodeau on lap 3 to starting putting the pressure on Mitchell for the lead. Lap 6 would see Leary moving into the 3rd spot and would start to give chase for the top 2! Within a few laps Leary had reeled in the top 2 and you could cover the top 3 with a blanket for the entire 2nd half of the race. The finally 5 laps would see Zullo trying the high side to get around Mitchell while also trying to not lose the 2nd spot to Leary. Mitchell would take the win with Zullo and Leary side by side at the finish line! Zullo would claim the 2nd spot with a gap of .031 over Leary who had to settle for 3rd. Cole Littlewood (73) would charge to 4th place after early in the race being shuffled back after making the smart decision to back out of a 3 wide attempt into turn 3. Thibodeau was able to hold on to finish the top 5.
NEMA Lite’s rolled into Hudson Speedway with 16 cars looking to do battle for the 50 lap Jim O’Brien Memorial Race. Unfortunately in heat race 2 Tyson Adamik (88) took a tumble on the backstretch ending the day for the #88! Heat race winners were Chase Locke (2) and Ryan Locke (16). Trent Goodrow in the 44 led the first 27 laps before turning the lead over to the 1 of Joey Bailey. Jake Trainor (29) passed Goodrow on lap 29 for the 2nd spot. The race would see its lone caution on lap 47 when Goodrow and a lap car made contact sending Goodrow into the wall in turn 3 ending his day. Bailey would hold off Trainor to capture the win. Trainor had to settle for 2nd with Kyle Valeri (17) in 3rd, Paul Scally (30) in 4th and Randy Cabral (47) in 5th.
The Granite State Indoor Range Six Shooters rounded out the days racing activities. Steve Miller Sr. in his new number 68 machine took down the heat race win. Mike Combs in the 52NH would lead the first two laps of the feature before Steve Miller Jr. (79) made the pass for the lead but in doing so Miller Jr. would cut a tire and be forced to head pit side. Michael Yeaton (25NH) would be the benefactor of the Miller Jr.’s misfortune as he would take over the top spot and never look back taking down his 2nd win of the season. Trystin Bodwell (17X) would take over the 2nd spot on lap 4 and attempted to run down Yeaton but just wasn’t able to get there and being forced to settle for 2nd. Garrett Barry (51) was able to hold off a hard charging Miller Sr. to capture the 3rd spot forcing Miller Sr. to settle for 4th. Zac Daniels was able to wheel his #67 machine home to a 5th place finish after battling running issues all day.
