“Hart’s Hagerstown Title Run Continues With Third Late Model Sportsman Victory” “Delaware Star Joe Warren Repeats in Crates”
By Doug Watson
Hagerstown MD, (7/8/23)- Port Royal Pa’s Devin Hart added to his championship standings lead as he collected his 3rd win of the season in last Saturday nights 25-lap Late Model Sportsman feature at Hagerstown Speedway. Hart’s win came aboard his familiar Rocket no.33K and would be the 8th of his career at the historic half-mile.
With the feature lineup set by time trials, fast Qualifier Kyle Lear made the most of his front row starting spot to take the lead at the drop of the green flag. Lear was making quick work of the field until disaster struck on lap 13 when he tangled with the lapped car of Eric Cronise, which would end his night with a battered race car. Devin Hart, second at the time, became the new race leader and would lead the final 12 circuits to post his overall 7th victory of the 2023 season. “Our car was good tonight.” Hart stated post race. “We’ve been working on it trying to get back to winning and I think we are definitely headed in the right direction, just Gotta keep digging.” Clinton Hersh produced a career best Hagerstown finish in second, 10th starting Justin Weaver took third with 12th starting Jakob Piper and Levi Crowl completing the top five.
Georgetown Delaware’s Joey Warren became the first repeat Crate Late Model winner with his win and their 25 lap event. Pole sitter Dale Hollidge blasted into the lead and appeared to have the car to beat as he Lead effortlessly through the first 13 laps until a broken shock ended his brilliant run. Mike Walls would then pace the field until Joey Warren took the top spot on lap 17 to become the third and final leader of the event as he would eventually take the checkered flag by inches over a fast closing Jeremy Pilkerton. “Our car wasn’t so good in the beginning of the night, we had to really work on it to get a good for the feature.” Warren said in victory lane. “It’s nice to win but unfortunately I was in the mix of a few torn up race cars and that’s not the type of racing I like to be a part of.” 14th starting Chuck Bowie was third with Tyler Hoy and Dylan High trailing at the finish.
The Semi Lates ran two 20 lap features on the night and found Jasen Geesaman and current point leader Jason Stoner scoring wins. The win for Geesaman would be his first of the season, but a milestone as well as the win would be his overall 100th career feature win. Stoner’s win would be his division leading 5th victory of the season.
The Pure Stocks would also contest two 20 lap events with wins going to current point leader Keith Reed as he snared his 4th win of the season and Nathaniel Younker as he would take his first career Hagerstown feature win.
