Greenbush Race Park

Big money and three first time winners at GRP

Big money on the line in two Wissota classes and a perfect evening for racing brought the cars out to the Greenbush Race Park as 96 cars signed in for the evenings race program.

Schill Construction of Langdon, ND put up $2,000 to the winner of the Midwest Modified feature and 27 drivers hoped to take home the big check. Unfortunately, only 20 drivers would be able to take the green flag for their 30 lap feature. It took four tries to get a lap in the books and when it did go green the guys reeled off 20 green flag laps. Nate Reynolds of Hoople, ND bolted to the lead from his fourth place starting position, and was in control. It was a good battle for the second, third, and forth spot between Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, MN, Paul Veert of Winnipeg, MB, and Ryan Schroeder of Devils Lake, ND Two more cautions with 10 to go would stack the field up behind Reynolds and one of those cautions would send Strand to the pits. Reynolds was able to hold everyone off over the final 10 laps and go on to get his second win of the year and the $2k payday. Schroeder would finish second and win his heat, and Dan Wheeler of Savage, MN, came all the way from 15th to finish third. Other heat wins went to Haley Lee of Starbuck, MN, Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, and Strand. Cody Lee of Starbuck, MN, picked up the B Main win.

The NLRA Late Models made their first visit to Park and an 18 car field would take the green flag for their 25 lap feature. Only two cautions would slow this race but it would be pole sitter Joey Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, out in front early. It took only six laps for Pederson to hit lapped traffic, but he worked it to perfection. A final caution with seven to go stacked the field up behind Pederson, but when the green dropped Pederson checked out and went on to get the win and sweep of the night. This would not be the last time we hear a Pederson name mentioned in Victory Lane. Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, MN, would finish second and Bill Mooney of Selkirk, MB, third. Mike Balcaen and Shane Edginton both of Winnipeg, MB, picked up the other heat wins.

The Modifieds would send 16 cars to take the green for their feature, and they too would have trouble with early cautions. When they did get to racing it would be Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN, out in front. Wahl had to hold off early challenges from Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, and Shawn Teunis from West St. Paul, Mb. The final caution would set up a green, white, checkered finish. Wahl had a good restart but it was Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, MB, with an even better start as he passed about three cars in one corner to move into the second spot, but it wouldn't be enough as Wahl would go on to get his first GRP win of the year. Imrie would finish second and win his heat, and Justin Bronk of West St. Paul, MB, would finish third. Holtan and Lance Schill of Langdon, ND would get the other heat wins.

The Lightning Sprints would line up 10 cars for their feature and they would run 15 caution free laps. Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, started third and by corner three was out in front and never looked back as she went on to pick up her first GRP win and a sweep of the evening. Alan Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, would win his heat and finish second, while Lawrence Veralrud of Oslo, MN, would finish third.

Fifteen year old Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, was hoping to join his sister and dad in Victory Lane and make it three for three for the Pederson’s'. Tucker sat on the pole and was out to the early lead and had about a four to five car length lead over second place Daniel Aberle of Finley, ND. But coming into corner four on lap 11, Pederson got a little crossed up and it sent him to the infield handing the lead to Aberle. No three for three. Aberle would go on to lead the last four laps and get his first ever GRP win and sweep. Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, would finish second and win his heat. Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, would finish third. John Halvorson of Warren, MN, collected the other heat win.

Bryon Berger of Badger, MN, would pick up his second win of the year in the nine car Pure Stock feature. A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, would finish second and win his heat and Jon Duray of Karlstad, MN, would finish third. Austin Brekkestran of Thief River Falls, MN, would collect the other heat win.

Up next at the Park will be the Rick Johnson Memorial for the Streets. Also racing that night will be the Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Lightning Sprints, 4 Cylinders and Outlaw Mini Mods.
