Imrie, Duray, and Wahl get GRP checkers

On a perfect night for racing, 60 drivers signed into the pits in hopes of picking up an elusive checkered flag, and six of them were lucky enough to do so.

The Modified feature would send 13 cars to take the green flag and pole sitter Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, MB, would bolt out to the early lead. Imrie was challenged early by Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, and Jordan Duray of Halma, MN, and Rick Delaine of Stony Mountain, MB, would join the fray a few laps later. Imrie was able to hold everyone off so the race was for the second spot. Duray got by Holtan early and about the midway point Delaine got by Duray, but a few laps later Duray would retake the second spot. The race would go caution free and Imrie would pick up his first GRP win and sweep of the year, Duray would finish second and Delaine third. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would win the other heat.

A couple of cautions before they would get one lap in slowed the pace for the 10 car Pure Stock feature and it would be Bryon Berger of Badger to take the early lead. But two laps in Berger would bobble in two and that would allow Jon Duray of Karlstad, MN, to get past Berger. About midway through, Duray got caught behind a lapped car and Berger would take the lead back, but just one lap later Duray would retake the lead and go on to get his second win in a row and a sweep of the night. Berger would hold on for second and Ryan Anderson of Newfolden, MN, would finish third. A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, would get the other heat win.

A light car count for the Midwest Mods as only nine would take the green flag but outside pole sitter Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would take advantage of the front row starting spot and rocket out to the early lead. Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, and Jordan Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would push Shane early but J. Wahl would fall back, but Olson kept good pressure on the leader. Three times the yellow flew the last would set up a green, white, checkered finish and S. Wahl would go on to pick up the win, his first since 2013. Olson would finish second and Victoria Stutsky of St. Andrews, MB, third. J. Wahl would get the lone heat win.

The nights featured race belonged to the NLSA Lightning Sprints as 14 cars lined up for their 25 lap feature. Five cautions in the first three laps slowed the early portion of the race, but then they rattled off 15 green flag laps and Josh Abrahamson of Moorhead, MN, took the early lead. Abrahamsons’ lead was short lived as Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, would take the lead coming out of corner four on lap five. Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN, worked his way up to the second spot after starting seventh by running the high side and was closing in on Truscinski. The final caution came with about three to go and forced Dvergsten to restart on the inside. Alan Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, would line up on the outside and beat Dvergsten to the corner and take over the second spot. Alex Truscinski would go on to get his first GRP win of the year with his father Allan coming in second and Dvergsten in third. Abrahamson and Murray Temple of Hartney, MB, would collect the heat wins.

John Current of Bemidji, MN, picked up his fourth win of the year for the 4 Cylinders. Shannon George of Bagley, MN, finished second and Joel Olson of Karlstad, MN, third.

Justin Cutrer of International Falls, MN, held off all challengers in the 10 car Outlaw Mini Mod feature to pick up his first GRP win of the year. Justin Besch of International Falls, MN, would finish second and Jerry Larson of Grand Rapids, MN, third. Kelly Steele and Tyler Jonson, both of International Falls, MN, picked up the heat wins.
