Checkers finally fly at GRP

After a couple of rainouts, racing action returned to the Greenbush Race Park. It was a beautiful evening despite a smoky haze from fires in Canada, as 88 cars had signed in at the back gate.

Before we could get to far into the nights racing program there were two and a half feature to be made up from June 15.

Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN, held off everyone to pick up the "Duggan" Nelson memorial win for the Midwest Modifieds.

Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, would pass Chase Boen of Karlstad, MN, coming out of corner four on lap four to pick up the Street win.

Bill Yonke of Thief River Falls, MN, would pass Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, out of corner four on lap four, but it would be Rick Delaine of Stony Mountain MB, to pass both Wahl and Yonke using the high side coming out of turn two to get the lead and the win.

Fourteen Modifieds took the green flag for their feature and pole sitter Shane Wahl would jump to the early lead, but at the halfway point fifth place starter Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, MN, would make the pass for the lead coming out of corner four. Despite a late caution with four to go, Strand was able to hold everyone off for the win and a sweep of the evening. Rick Delaine would finish second and Justin Bronk of West St. Paul, MB, would finish third and win his heat.

The Midwest Modifieds would have 19 cars take the green for their feature and pole sitter Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, would be the early leader. Olson would have to withstand challenges from Nate Reynolds of Hoople, ND and Lance Schill of Langdon, ND. The last caution came with six to go and Schill was finally able to get by Olson out of corner four on the restart. Schill would cruise to the win and sweep. Olson would finish second and Reynolds third. Paul Veert and Austin Overwater both of Winnipeg, MB, got the other heat wins.

Only one caution slowed the 14 car Street feature, as Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, led the way. Berger held the top spot for 14 1/2 laps but Nick Linert of Badger, MN, would get under Berger coming out of two, the pair raced side by side into three and four but it would be Linert winning the race to the checkers for the apparent win. After the race Linert was DQ'd for not scaling giving the win to Berger, his first as a Street driver. Chase Boen would finish second and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, third. Heat wins went to Trey Hess of Lakota, ND, and John Halvorson of Warren, MN.

Only 10 NOSA Sprints were on hand and it would be Nick Omdahl of East Grand Forks, MN, getting the feature win and the sweep. Jordan Adams of Reynolds, ND would finish second and Jordan Graham of Grand Forks, ND third. Jade Hastings of Grand Forks, ND would win the other heat.

The Pure Stock feature would line up 18 cars for their feature and pole sitter Jeremy Anderson of Newfolden, MN, would be the early leader. Outside pole sitter A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, would be a close second. On lap eight, Lane made his move and passed Anderson for the lead out of corner four. Four laps later Anderson appeared to have retaken the lead but a caution wiped that out. Late cautions set up a couple of green, white, checkered finishes but Lane would hang on for the win and sweep, Anderson would finish second and Bryon Berger of Badger, MN, third. Chris Thomas of St. Malo, MB, and Darryl Heintz of East St. Paul, MB, picked up the other heat wins.

John Current of Bemidji, MN, lead flag to flag to get his third 4 Cylinder win, Shannon George of Bagley, MN, would win his heat and finish second and Cory Nelson of Leonard, MN, would finish third. Joel Olson of Karlstad, MN, would pick up the other heat win.

Up next at the Park will be the Advantage RV Mod Tour, also racing that night will be the Streets, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Outlaw Mini Mods. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands open at 5:30, and cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with the racing starting at 7pm sharp.
