MIKE WILSON GETS 2ND CRATE MODEL VICTORY - WHITE EDGES REED FOR TITLE
The race for the Crate Model title was the tightest of all the divisions going into Saturday night. Sparky White led by just 45 points over Tyler Reed while Robbie Walls, Jr. had an outside chance 100 points back in third.
Reed closed that gap somewhat by winning his heat while White finished third behind Billy Thompson and Mike Wilson in the first heat. In the main, Wilson jumped out to the lead over Thompson but Thompson constantly got a nose along side in the turns. Rookie Wes Clifton held down the third spot while White quickly worked from seventh into fourth.
Wilson made his one and only slip in the fourth turn on just past halfway allowing Thompson to slip by on the bottom. Just as it seemed that Thompson had a comfortable lead the car slid to a sudden stop in the turn. A broke drive shaft and wacked Thompson in the lead but after a moment, he was able to climb from the car and limp away.
Wilson was back on top and would make no more mistakes as he drove to his second win of the year. White got by Clifton with one to go with Reed following into third. The pair would finish in that order with White getting his first championship and became the third generation in his family to do so at the speedway. Robbie Walls, Jr. made a last lap charge to finish in fourth and Charles Shawver rounded out the top five.
Crate Model Finish: 1. Mike Wilson; 2. Sparky White; 3. Tyler Reed; 4. Robbie Walls, Jr.; 5. Charles Shawver; 6. Mike Wharton; 7. Wes Clifton; 8. Kyle Cole; 9. Billy Thompson; 10. Richard Harden.
