AUSTIN HUBBARD WINS S.R. PETE & SON'S LATE MODEL THRILLER

The 20-lap S.R. Pete & Sons Super Late Model feature was a thriller. Kerry King had looked impressive in his heat and the Delmar driver started on the pole in the main with Austin Hubbard, who had won the second heat starting in second.

King immediately went to the top groove and looked impressive as Hubbard held off Ricky Elliott to settle into second. Elliott hung on to the third spot while Nick Davis held fourth with Joe Warren and Donald Lingo, Jr. swapping fourth.

The race was all green until just past halfway when Dylan Evan and Staci Warrington got together on the back straight. The contact blew out Warrington’s tire sending her hard head on into the back straight wall. Warrington was dazed for a few moments but was able to walk to the emergency vehicle and was treated at the speedway.

On the restart Hubbard began to mount a challenge on King. The two ran side by side on several occasions will come light contact occurring more than once. On the final circuit, Hubbard pulled even on the back straight and the top pair ran that way through the final two turns. King bobbled just a bit as he came off the turn and Hubbard was able to shoot by for the win.

King finished a disappointing second but Hubbard recognized the great effort King had given in Victory Lane. Third went to Elliott with Davis fourth and Warren ending a great run in fifth.
