MATT JESTER ON A MISSION IN BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDS
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Matt Jester continued to be a man on a mission in a quest for his second division championship. Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway, Jester drove to his third straight victory and his sixth of the year in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature.
Jester’s night didn’t start off that promising as a fourth place finish was all he could muster in the heat. His luck did a turn around when the inversion draw was an eight putting Jester on the pole for the main.
Jester set a blistering pace from the drop of the green with Brad Trice and Beau Wilkins battling behind him for second. Four cautions spread through the first half of the race would keep Jester from running away. At the halfway sign the top five were Jester, Wilkins, Jamie Mills, Trice and H.J. Bunting.
Just past halfway Mills got by Wilkins for the second spot but could not consistently close on Jester. With five to go Mills was trailing by less than a second but the yellow was back out. The yellow would fly one final time with three to go when Wilkins slowed to a stop on the back straight.
Jester handled the restart with perfection and powered to the win with Mills second and Trice third. Fourth went to Bunting and Dale Hawkins rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Mills and Michael White.
