ELLIOTT WINS "SWEET 16TH" IN SUPER LATES

Ricky “The Rocket Elliott continued his career season Saturday night in the Super Late Models at Delaware International. Herb Tunis started on the pole with Amanda Whaley second. Whaley went for the lead in turn four but looped the car to bring out the yellow. Brandon Dennis also spun trying to avoid the spin.

On the restart, Lingo shot by Lou Johnson and Tunis to take the lead. Once out front he shot away from the field. Elliott started in the sixth spot and worked by Andrew Mullins for third on lap three. Two laps later he took second from Tunis and the chase was on. Just before halfway, Mullins came to a stop in the second turn erasing Lingo’s lead.

Lingo held off Elliott on the restart as Whaley worked back into third and Staci Warrington cracked the top five. Lingo had opened some breathing room with a 1.37 second lead but the car slowed in turn two bringing out the yellow with seven to go.

Elliott inherited the lead and would take command of the race for the remainder of the 20 lap distance. Whaley and Dennis put on a great battle for second with Whaley winning out at the checkered. Dennis would finish in third with Warrington fourth and Tunis fifth. It was Elliott’s 16th win of the season. Heats were won by Lingo and Elliott.
