GRASSO POWERS TO FOURTH RISLONE URC WIN OF 2013

Grasso 2The Rislone URC Sprint Series returned to the Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night for the sixteenth event of 2013 season.   Current point leader JJ Grasso took the lead on lap sixteen from Davie Franek then went unchallenged to score his fourth win of the season and twenty-fifth career win with the United Racing Company.   Grasso earned $2,000 for the win in the twenty-five lap feature that was sponsored by Taylor & Messick. A wave of pink shirts filled the grandstand in memory of Kramer Williamson who lost his life in a URC sprint car accident earlier in the month at the Lincoln Speedway.   The Williamson  family attend the event as did the familiar “pink panther #73 which paced the feature field with Kurt Williamson at the wheel.

Three URC heat race events were presented with victories going to Jonathan Swanson, Troy Betts and Davie Franek.

In the twenty-five lap feature, Jonathan Swanson and Troy Betts were the front row with Swanson setting the pace for the first lap.     Davie “no panic Franek then took the lead on lap two.   By lap three, JJ Grass driving the Eldreth Construction sprint car was up to second and chasing down the leading Franek.   With a several car length advantage,  Grasso had to chase down the leading Franek.   Grasso narrowed the margin as Franek came up on slower traffic.   At the halfway mark, Franek, Grasso and made up the top three followed by Chad Trout and Josh Weller.

A caution flag was displayed on lap fourteen for Joe Zuczek who stopped in turn four.  When green flag racing resumed, Grasso took the lead following the double-file restart.   One lap later, the yellow flew again, this time for Curt Michael who stopped in three at the same time Joe Zuczek and Keith Prutzman stopped in turn four.

On the restart, Grasso  again took command of the lead with Franek and Weller in the chase.    Grasso established a comfortable lead over  Franek as Brian Carber advanced to third.

In the closing laps,  a battle was taking shape for third between Carber, Weller and Randy West  with Carber holding the advantage for third.   For the final two laps, Randy West was making numerous attempts to take over the fourth spot but had to settle for fifth when the checker flag fell.   Following Grasso and  Franek to the finish line were Brian Carber, Josh Weller and Randy West.

Making up the top ten were Billy Pauch, Chad Trout, Jimmy Stitzel, Troy Betts and Scott Lutz.
