JAMIE MILLS DOMINATES DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS FOR 2ND WIN

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/9/12) – A record 152 cars jammed the pits for Saturday night’s seven division show at the Delaware International Speedway. In the NAPA Big Block Modifieds, it was former two-time champion, Jamie Mills working his way to the top and driving to his second win in as many weeks in the division.

 

Beau Wilkins won the first heat and started on the pole with the “zero� inversion draw. H.J. Bunting, who had won heat two, started in second and gave chase from the green with Tim Trimble running in third. Mills started in the fifth spot and immediately started to advance running in the high groove.

 

By lap four, Mills had worked by Brad Trice and Trimble to take the third spot. Wilkins looked comfortable in the same high line but when Mills got by Bunting for second on lap nine he immediately began to feel the pressure. One lap later Mills was on top and that is where he would stay.

 

The only cautions in the race came on lap 11 when Howard O’Neal came to a stop and two laps later when Matt Hawkins got around collecting Kyle Fuller and Michael White. Bunting was able to get by Wilkins on the restart but it was Brad Trice that was on the move.

 

Trice got by Matt Jester then passed Wilkins with five to go to take third. As Mills streaked to the finish line, Trice got by Bunting on the final turn to post a hard fought second. Bunting settled for the third spot with Wilkins and Jester rounding out the top five.
