Race Recap May 12

After a couple of weeks of set backs with track issues then a rain out last week, the fans and drivers piled into County Line Raceway for a night of hot racing action. With 115 cars signed in between the 5 classes, it was guaranteed that they would not leave disappointed!

Up first, our Nashville Feed Super Stock 4 class with Eric Hill on the pole and Dakota Whitely outside. Eric Hill would lead the first lap, but would lose control in turn one and spin in front of the field. Dakota Whitley would go around him to avoid only to hit the opening at the turn 4 pit entrance. After taking the D7 in the pits, we were back green with John Proctor out front. Kevin Sanford would spin out of 4 on lap 6 bringing out the caution. Back green & Proctor was still out front of James Manning, Bill Winstead, Dustin O'Neal & Justin Baier rounding out the top 5. Another caution would come out on lap 6, after taking the green another caution would come out for the J2 in turn 1 when his rear end locked up. Back green, Proctor leading Winstead, O'Neal, Baier and Tyler Vaughn. Turn 4 would see a pretty big wreck involving several cars. Jeffrey Patterson, Eric Hill, would spin sending  cars darting all around to avoid. With 10 complete, we would go back green with John Proctor continuing to lead Bill Winstead, Justin Baier, Tyler Vaughn and Brian Medlin. John Proctor would bring home his 2nd win of the season followed by Bill Winstead, Justin Baier, Tyler Vaughn and Glenn Bottoms.

Our second feature, the P.L. Woodard Pure Stock V8 would roll out on the track for their 15 lap feature. Earlier in qualifying, the PSV8 track record would be broken by Gary Whitely with a fast time of 18.823 kicking out the old record Lane Proctor laid down last year. Gary would lead the first lap but a 2 car spin on the back stretch would bring out the caution before the lap was complete setting up a complete restart. Side by side with Phillip Lamm they'd cross the stripe but it would be Lamm leading that lap. Several short cautions would slow the field, and each time we went green Lamm would put a car length distance between him & the second place car of Jason Schlaffer. Coming up on lap 6 with Lamm still out front of Schlaffer, Gary Whitely, Dewayne Whitley & Jerry Williams. Cautions would plague this feature, but Lamm would maintain the top spot & pick up his first win of the 2012 season. Jason Schlaffer would come home 2nd followed by Gary Whitely, Dwayne Whitley & Jerry Williams. A post race inspection deemed the cars of Jason Schlaffer and Dewayne Whitley illegal and therefore were disqualified from the event.

Up next our Rapid Red Racing Supply Thunder & Lightning division with Skeeter Liles & Michael Batten on the front row. A couple of quickie cautions would slow the field, but it was a 9 car pile up in turn 1 would bring out the 3rd caution of the night. With ONE lap in the books, Skeeter Liles leads Michael Batten, Ethan Wilson, Eddie Woodruff and Cy Nelms Jr. Unfortunately we would have to cut this race short due to time constraints. Skeeter Liles would bring home the win followed by Ethan Wilson, Cy Nelms Jr., Mark Boykin, and Mark McDaniels.

Ready for their $350 to win special the ARCO Restoration Pure Stock 4 Cylinder division. The PS4 track record was broken by Michael Webb 18.761 retiring old the record set by Brad Hamm with a 19.093. Again, cautions would plague this feature from the drop of the green, but the worst one of the night would be on lap 2 when David Mattox would flip down the back stretch. David would exit the car under his own power, but unfortunately his car would go to the pits on a rollback. Back green with Webb out front followed by Hamm, Jeremy Benson, Cody Keith and Thomas Holbrooke. Brad Hamm would challenge teammate Webb but would lose momentum and spin in turn 2. Under green again with Webb still out front of Jeremy Benson, Cody Keith, Thomas Holbrooke and Casey Alford. Holbrooke would bring out the caution when he spun in 4 after passing Keith for 3rd spot. Jeremy Benson would bring out the caution when he spun in 4 ending up on the berm. After being pulled away by the wrecker we would go back for a green, white, checker. Michael Webb lead to to the green, Cody Keith in 2nd, Casey Alford in 3rd, JP Brantley in 4th and Lee Hardie running in 5th. Caution out again for a pile up on the back stretch involving several cars, cars that were running in the top 5. Back green for a last attempt at a green, white, checker and Webb continued to lead taking his 1st win of the 2012 season. He was followed by Casey Alford, Brent Atkinson, Chris Collins and Brian Hill.

Our final feature of the night, the Barnes Equipment Late Models, took to the track out of turn 4 for their 30 lap feature with Travis Hair & Christian Joyner starting on the front row. Travis Hair would lead the first lap followed by Russell Erwin, Christan Joyner, Britches Liles, Ray Tucker rounding out the top 5. Erwin would take a peak at the leader, but couldn't complete the pass. The first caution would come out for James Batten who would retire to the pits on lap 6. Back green with Hair still out front followed by Erwin, Liles, Joyner & Tucker. Erwin would make the move for the lead on the backstretch getting by Hair and putting distance between the 2. Lap 10 would see the caution come out again for our pole sitter Travis Hair who slowed out of turn 3. Back green with Russell Erwin still out front of Joyner, Liles, Tucker and Steve Blackburn. Through the field we'd see some great battles for position from 6th on back. Lap 15 would see the 3rd caution of the night come out when Carlton Toney would drop fluid around the track in turns 1 & 2 before retreating to the pits. Back green with Erwin still out front of Joyner, Tucker, Blackburn and Liles. Dustin Mitchell would peak under the L2 of Liles for 5th spot but couldn't get around him. Back up front, Erwin continued to lead and put a lot of distance between him & 2nd place Joyner. Mitchell would finally get around Liles for 5th spot on lap 19. Liles would start to fall back through the field as several cars would get around him. Trevor Peoples would retreat to the pits briefly as he brought out the caution coming up on 20 complete. With 10 to go, Russell Erwin continues to lead Christian Joyner, Ray Tucker, Steve Blackburn & Dustin Mitchell. Christian Joyner would gain some ground on Erwin briefly but would lose some momentum going down the backstretch. With 5 to go the caution would come out for Randy Lucas who spun out of turn 2. 4th place Steve Blackburn would suffer some left front damage that would render him to the pits under this caution as well. The Sleeper Neal Sykes would get around Daulton Wilson for 5th spot bringing JC Clary with him. With 4 to go, it's still Russell Erwin leading Christian Joyner, Ray Tucker, Dustin Mitchell and Neal Sykes.Bringing home the win, Russell Erwin followed by Christian Joyner, Ray Tucker, Dustin Mitchell & Neal Sykes.
