Brandon Overton notches runner-up finish in USA Nationals
Tuesday night saw Brandon Overton and Wells Motorsports return with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series at Outagamie Speedway (Seymour, Wis.) for the FVP Platinum Batteries Showdown. Outdueling Brandon Sheppard in his heat race to pick up the win, Overton went on to snag the pole in the redraw. After exchanging the top spot with fellow front-row starter Ryan Gustin in the first 15 circuits, Overton faded back to a fifth-place finish when the checkered flag flew. For the opening round of the 34th annual USA Nationals weekend on Thursday at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.), Brandon secured his spot into the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature with a second-place finish in his heat. Shortly after all six heats were finished, persistent rain postponed the feature to Friday.
Clawing forward two spots in the 30-lap affair, Overton recorded a ninth-place outing.
Later Friday evening for a pair of heat races, Brandon picked up a win in his first heat before coming from the tail of his second heat to finish fifth. With the top 16 in passing points locked into Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win USA Nationals, Overton sat in eighth overall, sending him into Dash. Improving one spot to finish, Brandon rolled off on the fourth row for the finale.
After running outside the top-five for the first half of the race, Brandon rolled the bottom groove to a runner-up finish when the checkered flag flew. He trailed Jonathan Davenport to the checkers in the 100-lapper with Ashton Winger, Jason Feger, and Brandon Sheppard rounding out the Top-5.
