Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Sept. 15, 2021) – Justin Henderson piloted the Mike Sandvig owned sprint car to a second-place finish Saturday night during the 21st annual Jerry Richert Memorial at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Henderson also won the 360ci sprint car portion of the event behind the wheel of his family owned MAX Motorsports No. 83 prior to the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars main event.

"Every time we've hit the track this season I feel like we've been a top-three car and you want to find your way to the podium each night," he said. "Lapped traffic really got us, but overall if I clean up a few mistakes here and there we're sitting in Victory Lane and not second."

With 27 cars in attendance, Henderson kicked off the night qualifying second quickest with a lap of 11.898 seconds. He then advanced two positions in a heat race to finish second and qualify for the dash.

Henderson gained two positions in the dash to finish third and garner the sixth starting spot for the A Main as a result. Looking to earn his second career victory in the event, Henderson rocketed around the top of the track to the runner-up position at the completion of the opening lap. The leader caught traffic on Lap 6 and Henderson capitalized to move into the lead.

"When we went into turns one and two the top really just opened up," he said. "I had to kind of follow the leader there a bit and I kind of snookered him into going to the bottom and I got around him on the top."

Henderson briefly lost the lead one lap later in traffic only to regain it on Lap 8. He was setting an extremely fast pace, but traffic became tougher to navigate. With only a handful of laps to go Henderson fell to second, which is where he finished. The top-five effort was the 17th of the season for Henderson and Sandvig.

"My right rear was a little more worn out then I thought it was and if I’d have found the rubber earlier and moved down it would have helped a ton," he said. "If I'd made a few less mistakes in Mike's car we'd have swept the night, but we definitely filled up the confidence bank."

The duo will take this week off before heading to Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sept. 25-26 for a Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association doubleheader. Night 1 pays $4,000 to win and the finale offers $5,000 to win.

Henderson holds a 28-point advantage in the track’s championship standings and is looking to lock up the 410 title for the second time in his career. It would be the first career points championship for Sandvig and that has Henderson excited the most.

"I definitely want to win both nights at Huset's and if we do that the points championship will take care of itself," he said. "It’d be nice to win a championship for Mike and get that off the old bucket list. Points racing can be tough as you can get a little hesitant sometimes with your driving so we're going to try and put that behind us and finish the season strong."
