Bowers Records Podium Finish During Season-Opening Race and Debut With BDS Motorsports

Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (May 7, 2019) – Ryan Bowers kicked off his season by earning a podium finish last Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Following a rainout on Friday at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, Minn., Bowers’ debut with BDS Motorsports was delayed a day until the Midwest Power Series show at the high-banked oval.

“We started off with not a great pill draw, but the passing points deal works out nice,” he said. “We started fifth and got up to third in our heat. That put us fourth in overall points. There was no inversion so the dash was lined straight up. It was a wild dash. There was an incident on the initial start, which moved me up to the front row. Then there was another incident on the restart, which resulted in me spinning.”

A third-place run in a heat race was followed by a fourth-place outing in the dash. That lined Bowers up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“I used the bottom in the dash when I restarted sixth to pass a couple of cars,” he said. “Other than that I didn’t go down there much. I tried to make a move on a restart and it didn’t pan out. (Wade) Nygaard was able to get around us and pull away. The track ended up taking rubber with four or five laps to go a lane off the top. That locked things down the rest of the feature.”

Bowers finished with a third-place result.

“For the first night out, if it’s a bad night and you come home third you can’t be upset,” he said. “I thought everything went good and smooth. With any team there is a learning curve. I think it was a great first step. I’m excited to get racing again.”

Bowers will take this weekend off before resuming Midwest Power Series competition behind the wheel of a BDS Motorsports race car on May 17 at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn. He will make his season debut at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, the following night.
