Bowers Picks Up Second Win of the Season with Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series
Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 10, 2018) – Ryan Bowers earned his second victory of the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series season last Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway.
It was a great moment during a busy weekend for Bowers, who competed with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader beginning on Friday in his 360ci sprint car. Despite the big difference in horsepower Bowers ended the night only one position shy of making the A Main.
“Saturday morning we discovered that we hurt the motor,” Bowers said. “I had to run back to the shop and get a new one. We switched it out at the track that day.”
Bowers ended up doing double duty on Saturday with the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series and he was offered a ride in a 410ci sprint car for the World of Outlaws portion of the night.
“We drew terrible for both cars,” he said. “With the UMSS, we started seventh in the heat race and won it. That put us third in the dash and we finished second.”
Bowers lined up second in the feature and once traffic arrived he took over the lead. Unfortunately, a caution came out and he was sent back to second. On the restart, Bowers dropped back to fourth and decided to change his line.
“On the restart I hit the cushion while the top three cars dove to the bottom,” he said. “I passed second and third on the restart in turns one and two and a couple of laps later I took the lead. We were able to come home with the win. It was a whole team effort with all hands on deck. It turned into a really fun night.”
Bowers also made his first feature event with World of Outlaws, qualifying 20th quickest, placing seventh in a heat race and ending 23rd in the main event.
“It was really exciting to make our first feature with the Outlaws,” he said. “Hopefully we can do it again sometime.”
Bowers is set to race this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints, Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway with the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series.
